Default DIRT CHEAP: LQ4 Turbo carb yadda yadda Need advice!!!!

Hey guys

Im finally getting off my lazy butt and getting moving on turbo-ing my junk.

Car is a 1991 Mustang

Current setup is a stock SBC with a stock bottem end and a set of double bump heads. And NOS

I picked up an LQ4 with about 120K KMs (75k miles) for $100 and an HX52, rebuild kit and flange for just under $200. I have a set of truck manifolds, and Ill be running a CSU 750 blow thru carb on E98

Questions -

Z06 cam - yes? no? Run the truck cam?
L92 heads? - Are they worth it? - I see used sets for $500ish
Anyone here running E98?
Are 3.55 gears too steep? I have 4.10s currently, but they're very broken....

Any other advice you guys could offer would be great, first turbo, but not my first rodeo...

You can use a zo6 cam which has worked well for many but I would use a TU1 from speed inc or something to help fill those cylinders a little better.

keep the 317's they work fine. There are tons of guys using them.

There are a few guys who are using it here maybe they can chime in.

3.55's would probably be fine on a 28" tire. You might be able to go lighter on the gears and add more boost to get off the line.

Ever since I saw this blow thru non ls setup I have been wanting to go that route to make it simple.

Running 28x10.5s, I also have a set of 3.27s sitting in the garage that could be swapped in instead of the 3.55s

I would use those since you have them already. There are guys using even less gear than that.

use the gears you have, they are fun.

start with the truck cam, youve already got it. dont be stingy with timing, you are running e98

thats DIRT cheap, and it could still get you in the 8s

you dont need an intercooler.

is this a street car? do you already have the carb? if not, you could do a methanol carb and be even faster

I fail to see how 5XX HP is good for 8s, but anything's possible. Yes, it's a street car driven rain or shine all summer long. I have the carb already sitting on the bench at work

I already have the gears under the bench, and enough 8.8 parts to build at least a couple diffs, so I think the 3.55s will do, might as well use them.

Going rate if I were to come across one? And any other suggestions on a cam swap if I cant find one of those????

The 5XXHP is a guess, if I break the 600RWHP mark I'll be impressed.

run the stock cam. it costs you ZERO, and people have been 5s with the stock cam.

you'll need about 15-17 psi to go 5s with an lq4 on the stock cam, if your weight is around 3000-3200 lbs
