Another turbo selection thread...
I am trying to convince a friend of mine to go FI on his engine.
He has a 540 cube engine that is currently making 800hp at the crank NA, but he wants to get into the 1000-1100hp range, maybe a tad more..
If we go with twin 76mm ON3's - will that do the job or will they choke the engine when not into boost??
My thinking is lowering the compression from 13.5 to around 10-10.5 (will be running E85) and of course bigger injectors - 160lb - and a new tune should do the trick? He runs a MOTEC ecu so tuning with either high og low impedance injectors is ok. A new cam should go in as well.
We are not looking to make bigger HP than maybe 1200 -1250hp maximum so I think twin T6 size snails would be too big.
Thanks!

Size of the turbine is determined more by the cubic inch of the motor than by the horsepower level you want to make.
The 65-68 mm of the on3's are just too small. Engine will choke before 5000 rpm.
If this is a 7500 rpm capable engine and you want it to stay that way... the 7675 from turbonetics that huron speed has would be as small as i would go. Even then it might nose over between 6500-7000.
There are numerous bbc's running around with 96mm/1.32 T6 S475's as twins that work just fine. And its a cheaper turbo than the 7675.

Thanks LilJohn, that is what I thought.
This engine is breathing through a 2000cfm dominator style throttle body now so picturing this breathing through two T4 size turbos worried me even though they would be rated to 1400hp,
On top of that he revs his engine to 7600rpm...
However space is tight on his rig so I dont think we will have room for that big turbos but I can bring him my HX60 to measure if we could cram them in there.
Two of those S475 woul make this engine capable of 1500-1600hp right?
