another s472 turbo 5.3
Im picking up a 5.3 from a 2001 burban with 148k miles im not sure if I should go efi or blow thru setup.Id prefer which ever woud be cheaper im looking to make 490-550 whp I have a t6 s472 bw turbo. What parts would you recommend to get me there?should I buy a z06 cam? or is that something that's not really needed to reach my goal? This will be on 93 octane and im setting the car up for mostly drag racing and street mile. This is all going in a 90 Lincoln mark 7. Thanks for any info.

Blow through would probably be cheaper if you modify the carb yourself. If you buy one already retrofitted, add in the blow through hat, ignition box, carb intake - the price difference will be pretty small but you will lose tuneability and driveability of EFI.
Things you need to buy any way, fuel pump, lines, regulator, wideband
If Blow through you need modified carb, carb intake, carb hat, ignition box
If you have the stock wiring harness, stock intake, computer, and sensors all you would really need are bigger injectors and something/someone to tune it.
A Z06 cam should be fine, it is generally recommended that you do valve springs as well.
You should be able to make the power pretty easily when finally set up.

CHeck with Brian Tooley for valvesprings. Nice pieces for sure. Not sure what a Z06 cam is worth but if you are in the market may want to look into some other offerings that may work better. If you can get a good deal on a used Z06 cam then go for it. If you stick with EFI you will need injectors. Is your engine coming with a harness?

No it's coming from a junkyard with prolly no alternater either. I was thinking of buying this harness http://www.currentperformance.com/eng_mgt.html the barebones harness for $550. It feels weird saying this buy I actually would mind a near stock sounding idle that zo6 has. Not to mention I'm trying to keep cost down I wanna drive this in summer of this year.

I would personally stay with EFI too. The drive-ability of a well tuned LS on boost is amazing. I have limited experience with blow through cars but I have never seen one with 700+ hp that you could cross country if you wanted.

The Z06 cam has proven itself time and time again to provide power levels above your goal. If you can find one they are usually selling in the $200 price range. You could also find a cheap set of LS6 yellow springs to drop in their for a budget build. I just picked up a BTR dual valve spring kit but I will be using a more aggressive cam and hope to redline above 6,500 rpm.
