Default Low RPM / high torque

I have a LQ4 that I am building for my jeep. I am looking for low rpm (<5000) and torque off idle.

Most builds on here are high rpm so it's hard to pick a turbo off these threads.

I have a hx55 from one of my diesel engines. Will this spool up in my rpm range (1000-5000) and give good torque?

Or should I sell and look for something else? Ideally I'd like to hit full spool by 4000-4500 rpm.

This vehicle will probably never see over 80mph.

You could do it with a turbo....but a PD blower is really what you need for that.

Or must you use a turbo for some reason ?

Don't have to use a turbo. Just have one laying around. You have a link to that blower.

Aren't blowers typically more expensive?

Depends on your typical lol.

If typical is a brand new billet BW turbo with full custom stainless manifolds etc etc etc. Then nope, a blower is probably cheaper.

If typical is a cheap used turbo, with factory cast manifolds adapted by yourself, then maybe the turbo is cheaper.

Unless you can find a good deal on a used blower setup, which I'm sure there are plenty out there.

But if you need instant power from very low rpm, a PD blower will be your best bet.

Quick search. Found TVS series blowers. Don't think I want to spend $5k+

Can't a turbo do it for cheaper. ~$2k

PD = positive displacement, typically any valley mounted blower.

http://www.magnacharger.com/

Is probably the most common. But there must be half a dozen or more variations around that theme/design

I'd like to use the hx55 I have. Just wondering if it will work in my rpm range, 1000-5000

I guess a lot would depend on the turbine. But generally it seems like a large unit. So not really ideal for low rpm usage.

find a TVS1900, thats your best bet at getting all the low-end grunt you need. Note 1900 and not 2300, the smaller blower makes more low-end boost.

Then you can get a custom torqey cam that is specced for your set-up, requirements/goals

IMO, always buy a bigger blower than you need. It will make sense in the long run, and generally they are more efficient anyway

I'm using twin cx racing gt35's. 61mm compressor and 62mm turbine .68ar t4 flange. Haven't driven it yet but denmah is using them and they spool instantly. Said they feel like a supercharger

Are you using the oil/water turbos? If so do you have to water cool it?

I'll be watching your thread. Mine is going in a 77 Wagoneer.

You will want a smallish turbine and a regular sized compressor

Ideally this is what I'd like. I'm no where near ready to buy but researching.
Been looking at the s300 series turbos or even the s466sx with a 68mm turbine. Not sure on the a/r?
