Default s400 big hp?

I am working on building a boosted 5.3 for a pulling truck. I happen to have a mpt70, godspeed 72mm, and an s400 turbo all sitting on the shelf waiting to be used on something. I need to get a minimum of 900hp+ to really make it worth my time. This will be my first BIG boost build so looking for some advice. Will an s400 support that kind of hp? Want to stay cheap, any cheap good performing turbos out there? Prefer single but would go twins if necessary. How big of injectors will I need? Not afraid of RPM's. Was planning on stock bottom, stock heads with some work done. Any recommendations on other mods? Any users or sponsors that would be good to talk to for advice on this? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

It was a stock application turbo that we used to run on our diesel pulling tractor.it is supposed to be roughly 3" on intake side and roughly 3.4" on exhaust side

Or would I be better off buying a different turbo? I can buy an 80mm gt45 ball bearinged from cxracing for $650.

What are the wheel sizes on that one? Dimensions of the inlet and outlet for the housing?

Lots of S400's out there. The diesel guys run typically S475's or S480's.... but usually in a twin application with a smaller turbo. I think I've seen some S475-s480's in the 600+ HP range but thats on a diesel, not sure what you are looking at on a gas motor.

We were making about 800hp on or diesel tractor with this s400. Don't know for sure which model it is though. Our diesel supplier just told us to put it on and we would like it. It was running all over gt42's

huh, that might work out just fine. That is a basic S475 with the 96mm turbine.

since the exhaust is a 5 inch out do I need to reduce my downpipe to like a 3 inch for backpressure or do you think it matters? On our diesel engine our diesel supplier had us reduce the exhaust down to 4 inch. Also is a air/water intercooler going to be worth the added cost and weight vs just an air/air cooler? Any other mods or tricks I might want to know to reach my hp goals?

Thanks for the help identifying my turbo. I have two of them, will a 5.3 spool these with twins? Or would I be better off with just one? As long as I can reach 900-1000hp with one I'd rather just run the one and have a backup

That turbo is rated at 1050hp if I remember correctly. One should reach your goals if you want 900 at the flywheel. Run the biggest down pipe you can fit you don't want back pressure. Not sure on the inter cooler, how far do you pull, how long does the pull last and what speed do you get up to? If your not pulling for very long or very fast an air to air probably won't do much for you. What type of fuel are you going to run? Can you run meth injection or E85?

I decided to go with a S480 with the 92mm turbine on my build and I am doing a air to water intercooler. Since it is a street car too, I chose to do a heat exchanger (although not a huge one) and a water tank as well.

As for the downpipe, I went down to 4" mainly due to packaging constraints. If you can keep 5" do so!

Generally we shoot for 300 ft track, unfortunately some places make us run closer to 400 ft. Normal run is going to be 10-15 seconds. I have never had a speedo hooked up on any of my pulling trucks or tractor but I'd say 30-50 mph wheel speed depending on the track maybe more. I haven't decided on fuel yet, we are allowed to run any fuel we want. I run alcohol in my big block truck. I have a set of 62lb injectors but am guessing they probably aren't big enough for even higher octance race gas? I would prefer meth over 85 since I have to drive an hour to find 85 around here, but I keep a barrel of meth on hand. Could I just run premium or race gas with a meth fogger? or would it be cheaper to just buy the injectors to run straight meth?

Ok, yea I'm not sure why our diesel guy wanted us to reduce down, didn't make sense to me but he does that stuff everyday for a living, thought maybe he knew something I didn't. Is there someone who sells an air/water kit or is ebay best bet on that stuff?
