Default Boost and steam vents, 799 heads what to do

So I was getting ready to button up the top side of my motor last night. Was not paying any attention when I installed the heads. Found out last night the steam ports on the 08 799 heads I bought have the rear steam ports blocked. Since I wasn't paying attention when I installed them, I put them at the front.

So my question is what of the 3 do I do?? I prefer not to pull the heads, Setup is a 5.3L with the 799 heads, cam package and a Procharger F1C. Car is 1999 Corvette.

1) Pull the heads and flip them around and get the different vent tube, have to recoat the gaskets and reinstall.

2) Drill them out and leave the heads the way they are, and no removal of heads.

3) Other ideas and options???? I am open.

Well considering how the cooling system works and how the steam vents work, personally, I would pull the heads and install them the correct way.

This is always a debate but I always block both of them off. My twin turbo c5 has them blocked and my turbo 6.0 Fairmont has them blocked I beat on these cars everyday . My corvette gets driven on long trips with my family and no issues.

I would probably drill them out if faced with the problem. I can't remember but does the bolt hole go into the water jacket? If it does I would get some fittings and build a vent tube.

I had the same issue, but I installed mine with the plugs at the rear on accident. I just reused the truck crossover tube at the front and left the rear blocked. This is how it came stock on my 5.3L Silverado. Then when I pulled the heads again a couple months later I punched out those plugs and installed a 4-way LS1 crossover. I believe they just punch out and don't need to be drilled out. You will have to pull the heads to remove them or else you will have a chunk of metal floating around your cooling system ready to do some damage.

You could try using a cross over in the rear and leaving the front blocked. But you might get air trapped at the front.

Both of my last two stock bottom end engines which have yet to implode had the rear steam vents blocked off.

You can knock that part down an it will fall out where the water pump holes are...

Grab a vacuum and drill them out. Little bit of **** in the cooling system wont bother anything. Or block them all off.

I would think that you could just drill a small hole in them and then use a slide hammer with a threaded end and pull them out. Could even just try a long screw.

You can buy blockoffs from an LS6 from GM for a few bucks. They came with blocked rears from the factory. My L33 799 heads had them on it....in the rear, not blocked with plugs like yours.

It's hard to say, many people in this thread have great success with their cars and have them blocked off..

But some have said it causes a heating problems with not letting it vent and kaboom!!

The best advice is to just do what will make you sleep at night, right now it's 50/50 so seems like there isn't a wrong answer...

I connected the rears to the front with using a ls6 crossover, some black rubber hose and a barbed T. I have maybe 50 dollars in it. It's probably not needed but its cheap insurance on my 6000 dollar motor.

yeah even if it doesnt work, atleast you know you did it... It has to be a better setup than blocking them off in theory, but who knows...

But I like overkill though on my car
