Why does every one put the turbo(s) towards the front on the engine bay? W/ pics
I want to put the twin turbos by the firewall and I want to know if it is a big no-no to do so and why. I want to get the exhaust heat out of the engine compartment ASAP so I was thinking a 3” radiuses 3” exhaust tubing as close as possible to the firewall and mount the turbos where the T4 flanges are in the pics and run the twin cold sides to the A/A intercooler and out and under the radiator up to the throttle body with a meth nozzle a few inches before the TB. Anything wrong with doing it that way?
and ill reduce the old flange area and put the wast-gates their.
the firewall is only going to have the steering shaft, a/c and heat lines going thru it and im using the wilwood 3 peddle floor assm. for gas, brake & clutch. the wiper motor is going in the cowl where the tape measure is and fits a lot better than moving it to the drivers side under fender area.

Look at some corvette manifolds if you want to place the turbo closer to the rear. I believe the reason most of us run our turbos forward is because we want the exhaust gases directed toward the turbo. In your set up the gases would be directed toward the wastegate. You could also build your own setup buying exhaust flanges and tubing mounting the turbos near the firewall.
or you could mount them similar to mine

They simply mount the turbochargers where there is the most room available.
They can go anywhere you wish, the closer to the engine the better though so as much heat energy as possible is retained.

yes they will work near the back of the engine bay
Just put them where you have room, but try to keep them level. The car/builder above had issues due to the turbos being at that angle and letting oil seep past the seals

It's a balance of things. You want good exhaust exits, not too small, and you want them to breathe with air inlet. Notice how race-cars mount theirs at the front? Air inlets to the compressor is important.

If you really want to mount them that far back a pair of 2010+ Camaro exhaust manifolds would work pretty well. Keep in mind though that the angle of the down pipes coming out of the turbos is going to be fairly extreme to clear the firewall.

Each and every setup will have good points and bad. The point is, there are many ways to build an effective turbo setup.

I have to agree this is a little different and very cool for what he is doing. but mine is going into a DD 68 Camaro.

I too have mine mounted as far back to the firewall as it would fit. It was the only place I could fit the turbo. Thinking about it now, it would have been much easier and cleaner to do twins right in front on either side of the motor. Like everyone else has said, its where they fit. Some people choose a location a lot on looks as well, some really like the whole simitry bit about it.

after looking at lots of ways to mount the turbos by the firewall it looks like a big pain in the *** to do it that way and the owner wants to have the simitry look so it looks like i will put them towards the front of the engine compartment.

not yet waiting for the accursed (michigan) weather to get better
its 90% finished need to finish interior-gauges-bodywork-and tuning
as well as wire up the efan
this is my first gen 4 motor swap, first turbo build, first e85 build(i am using a fuel composition sensor to correct fuel and spark for straight gas or e85 or anything inbetween)
I am excited to complete it as soon as the 10 foot snow drift it is inside of melts
