Default Flex fuel on ls1 f body

Im really wanting to safely run more than 10psi on pump gas. Im debating meth or e85. My perfect world situation would be a flex fuel option. I drive the car on long trips some times and don't want to worry about not finding e85.

Has any one done flex fuel using the stock ls1 computer?

That I know of, no. The only stock ECU that I can think of can do flex fuel is the EVO one. I know that some GM vehicles are flex fuel but I don't know of the LS1 ECU will support it. I bet that with some tweaking it could though.

I've been running e85 and really would like a slick flex fuel system and better boost control that only seems to come from stand alone PCM solutions like proEFI. I know sound performance have done some proefi setups on fbodies and a ton on supra's. the slick thing is that proefi monitors the ethanol content real time and automatically adjusts boost, timing, stoich afr etc on the fly. I'm contemplating switching over this winter, but its not cheap but is worth it if it saves your motor.

can't just hook up the computer after filling up and change tunes?

Flex fuel does more thought. It compensates for less ethanol content and adjust the boost, timing, AFRs, etc.

oh i know, but the cheapest alternative to this problem would be to load two separate tunes depending on what fuel is in the tank.

he would also need to have the fuel sensor be able to determine how much eth percent is in the fuel line as well.

as far as using the STOCK PCM, nope.

would have to us a newer PCM

That is what I currently do but it would be nice to have the feature where Stoich AFR, timing, and boost can compensate for when you pull up to a pump that has say e70. As it is right now I test periodically the e85 I put in my car and I marry a pump and only use that one for the whole year. Whereas my supra buddies running proEFI just go to whatever station and the pcm and flex fuel sensor sorts it out based on the ethanol content of the fuel. Not only that but the canbus gauge will actively readout the ethanol content of the fuel real time. That is only one of the many other badass features that these standalones can do that HPT and the stock PCM unfortunately can't. We can do a lot more with our stock pcm than those guys can for higher hp applications, but standalones are far supperior than stock

I wish the 0411 PCM had something like the Tephra mod that Evo guys have... They can even do boost control

I know Max Mitchell/skinnies did some testing with using a Hobbs switch and a 2nd PCM/tank to on the fly switch fuels. I'm sure with the addition of a flex fuel sensor and compatable PCM you could possibly just flip a switch to whichever sort if fuel you want to do. I do know frost has the dual tune pcm's but idk if you can incorporate a flex fuel sensor with that.

Thought this was a good video demonstrating true flex fuel capability

I have flex fuel set up with my Megasquirt and it works awesome. So nice not having to worry about finding an E85 station every fillup.

Skinnies and I did twin PCMs on my car and 2 separate fuel systems and 16 injectors. Worked really well. I ran 87 in one tank and E85 in the other tank.

@Compressor....would you mind sharing how this was accomplished? I really new to these platforms but the flex fuel capabilities of the ProEfi 128 unit I loved when dealing with the Supra world. Ideally I would like to setup my ssetup as flex fuel capable even if its not to the level of ProEfi.

Thanks in advance.

What compression ration are you using ?

10psi is pretty low even for pump fuel, unless your CR is pretty high

An aftermarket ecu with proper flex fuel options would seem a bit overkill unless your engine build really does restrict you to such low boost with pump fuel.
