Default Griffin radiator guy with turbo,ac,auto. step in for the end all cooling solution.

Ok so il begin with I have pictures but my computer is broken. If some one can post them for me that would be great. Email me at aoppice@gmail.com and il send then from my phone.

I've been testing a lot with having actual working ac in my stood up Griffin radiator 88mm comp turbo car for a while. Ive finally got the setup to work great and on a budget.

Let me explain what I mean by " actual woring ac." This is ac that work in Chicago traffic,95 out and 1000% humidity. Not I live in the country and drive at least 50mph every where so I don't need good fans. This week here has been disgusting and I drive 10 miles to work in bumper to bumper. Takes an hour.

To the setup. I have the typical griffin radiator stood up and the factory ac condensor in front of it. I have tried spal, derale, permacool, pushers, pullers, both, shroude d, etc. Everything was ok but not factory good. Would over heat in extreme conditions.

So i got sick of aftermarket and went to the junk yard. Found a 2001 saab 93 turbo. Did some measuring and bought the entire fan shroud with both 10ish inch pullers.

It took me about 10 minutes of minor cutting and it fits in the Griffin like factory. It was $40 bucks.

I welded 2 studs on the radiator end tanks for mounting. I also replaced the stock relays with 2 30amp relays. Im still using all factory wiring, just replaced the relays because the stock ones would go bad after a month.

I also run a 24k gvw b&m trans cooler with a 9inch puller spal fan. Its right in front of the condensor on its own bracket with an inch or so in between.

I have eliminated the stock ps cooler, which is really a heater when you have a big turbo next to it. I run 25% decool, 2 containers of water wetter, stock water pump,160 t stat, air deflector is on.

With this setup i see max 220 ac blasting going on average 10mph in traffic and about 95 degrees. My trans won't go over 175 ever.

I hope this helps some guys, took a lot of trial and error but I finally have a setup I'm happy with and it didn't cost much.

Alex

What I don't get is how is it a stock fan setup will keep you cruisin all day long but the big bad aftermarket super fans can't get the job done. Is it the shroud design, the cfm of the fans or what?

The easiest way is measure and find a hydraulic hose tubing maker in your area to extend them. Any company along those lines should be able to. I got another upper line from a junk yard and had my boss tig weld in a section. Then that supee long hose that loops around the fan shroud, I had that shortened for a cleaner out of the way look. That I got done at a place bristol hose. They can make any thing.

Garrettm, I think its because the factory can't mess around. They have to test over and over in real world conditions. The saab fans were made to put through a factory radiator, Condensor and huge intercooler on the saab. They are small but very strong fans, and the fit is unreal. I swear its like saab was thinking about running the griffin radiator we all use, lol.

people underestimate how effective shrouded pullers work. I don't have my ac hooked up but during the hot months my flexalite pullers and griffen rad sit around 185ish and every inch of the radiator has air being pulled through it.

So today is really hot. heat index of 102. My other car reads 103 out. Its super sunny to. Sat in traffic for one full hour. Trans got to 179, engine was at about 235. It did hit 239 for a second when i got off the high way sat at a light, punched it then sat at another light.

I also measured the air out of the vents. Its about 59. I think that could be colder. any one have stock car they can measure vent temp on max?

Damn, i dont know if that will fit mine.. I have a charge pipe that is going to come down right in front of the down pipes there in the middle. id say the charge pipe will be 1/2" ish from the radiator... How wide are the fans? My radiator goes under the upper support, you can see where i cut a hole for the cap.

I have 2 10" Ziro pushers that i planned on using, but i dont think theyre going to be enough.

Then you don't need the saab fans. Your pushers will probably work. You would be surprised to see how differant of a ball game it becomes when you put a hot condensor in front of the radiator
