Unfortunately I won't make it, I'm in Afghan until next May/June atleast but most likely July. I do hope to bring my car up to Paul's shop though when I get back to put it on the dyno and tune it.

The intercooler came in today. I will need to mock it up and have mounting brackets welded on.

The block went to HED for the machine work then I carried it to Dusty at BHP for assembly. Getting closer......

Nothing but greatness in this thread. I can't wait to see more of this build. What do you anticipate the end weight of the car to be?

I'm hoping 3200. During the turbo build I have done a few things to drop some weight and over the Winter I will do drag brakes and speed glass in the front and rear.

It has a custom converter from Lenny at Ultimate Converter Concepts. He also built the converter for it when it was nitrous

A lot of research went into this intercooler. It was design and built by Bell intercoolers. This was the convo with Bell......

- Considering the 1300 BHP at approx. 28 psig (Air-Flow of 1,50 CFM), respectively, avoiding an excessive Pressure-Loss, it is necessary to change the Intercooler-Design from a “Cross-Flow” to a “Vertical-Flow”
- the recommended Core-Size is a= 4.5”, B= 28.0”, C= 6.0”
- that requires one of the 4” Ducts to be on top and one on the bottom
- considering that the max. Height is 12.1”, allowing the End-Tank to be 3” tall, the Ducts have to have an oval intersection between the Duct and the End-Tank, transitioning to a round Cross-Section
- to achieve an optimum Air-Flow-Distribution through the Core, the Inlet-Side End-Tank will be equipped with an Air-Guide

A little more info. A vertical intercooler has more than twice the amount of tubes for the air to travel through making it easier to cool the air. Also the biggest amount of cooling is done in the first 4 inches in the intercooler. Long story short if you go vertical style it can be smaller, flow way better, and cool just as good if not better. Down side is they cost a lot more, mine was $1200

Well, it costs more, it weighs more, in class racing normally there is a weight penalty for having it, plus it's a lot of damn work and money keeping it drained and full of fresh ice. You would be amazed at how much ice you go through at a weekend long event.

Yeah I know, I didn't want to drop that much coin but Bell told me if you drop more than 1.5 psi then you do not have the right intercooler for the job. So I figured I would spend that much now and get what I needed instead of spending $200-$500 for an intercooler that's holding me back and not right for the set up, I view that as wasted money.

Yeah I found out a long time ago it's cheaper and easier to do it right the first time and not cut corners. Even if it takes longer.

I love that he not only told you to purchase the vertical intercooler but explained WHY you needed it. Further, he explained it in terms anyone could understand and backed it with facts. Thanks for sharing, you just made us all smarter.

Cool build.

Awesome car and build man. Still hoping for 8's with this build? What kind of numbers are you expecting?
