Default 0 oil pressure out of no where.

went to a mini autocross today, never get out of 2nd gear. did 2 runs. nothing crazy, then i parked the car to cool down. then i came back, went to go for a 3rd run, and see i have 0 oil pressure, and kind of a buzzing noise (something in the heads, maybe lifters) def not a knock noise. so i shut the car off right away and had it towed home.

any idea what could cause 0 oil pressure all of a sudden? it has oil in it. doesnt leak oil, and doesnt burn oil. the engine was rebuilt about 500 miles ago.

ps. i mnow this is the forced induction section, but there seems to be quicker response/higher brain power in here.

its a stock ls2.
ported ls6 oil pump
ls7 lifters
brian tooley spring kit
ported 317's
master power t76

Check it with a mechanical gauge before you panic. The sensors pop pretty often when running up the RPM like I am sure you were doing. If you really have lost oil pressure check the oil for metal flakes.

Good jobcatching it early. Id say oil pressure switch but you said there were noises up top which would point to the early stages of no oil pressure. I could have been a bad oil pump or oring. Rare but could happen.

This happened to me last nigt at car wash. Ran a mile to parts store and changed oil filter and pressure back. Collasped oil filter or possibly wrong one. Mine is a remote filter and was running 51045 and was told today it should have been a 51069. Changing it again today with correct filter

Pull the oil filter off and cut it open, if you see tin and copper chunks you have bearing problems, if there is none look to the oil pump, could be a pinched O ring, or bypass valve screwed up.

If you had lifters sounding off your gauge is probably telling the truth, you can check it with a mechanical gauge but I would do the above step first to see if its worth you time to buy the fittings and gauge to check it.

By the way this is what you would be looking for.

i did cut open the filter. only thing i saw was a few pieces from cutting open the filter itself. the oil pump bolts were on tight. gonna drop the pan this weekend to check the back of the pump and o-ring.

Could be you sucked air instead of oil causing your bearings to starve for oil.
This happened to my buddies car. I'm pretty sure someone makes a baffle just because of the this.
Autocrosss hard turns can put all the oil to one side of the pan and next thing you know your in trouble.

Are you sure you have the right filter. This happened to me the other night like I said. Moroso had told me the wrong filter. Changed filters and have driven the car several pulls and over 200 miles and the oil pressure is 60-70psi. No issues since. The filter could have collasped or could be anti drain back when it shouldn't etc.... It is a cheap try to eliminate this instead of pulling pan.
