Putting an lsa zl1 supercharger on an lq4 (w ls3 heads) in my 68 Camaro. What is the black canister on the passenger front side of the supercharger?

Ok so how is this controlled? I take it that my old Gen III dbc controller won't work?

The ECM uses that to control boost. There is a little solenoid on the side there that directs the air to where it needs to go. You can simply run the top line on the bypass valve to a pre-blower post-throttle body vacuum port and it will work normally.

I don't need to hook it up to the ECM? I don't think my ECM will handle it - it's an old drive by cable gen III ecm from like a 2003 van. It will work only on the vacuum port?

No, you don't have to. Its really only for torque management and boost limiting functions. The ECM will send signal to that solenoid to put boost to the bottom port on the actuator to open the bypass and bring boost down. Otherwise, vacuum on the top port just works to open the bypass once the throttle is closed.

Thanks! Next question. What if my throttle body does not have a port? Can I hook this bad boy up anywhere else or do I need a new throttle body? Can anyone recommend a good cable throttle body for this supercharger?

No, you don't hook it up to the throttle body, just somewhere behind it but above the rotors. You want it to see vacuum as soon as you close the throttle. The line is already referenced correctly in stock form; you just have to hook it directly to the actuator instead of the solenoid.
