How many quarts of oil did you run? What oil pump? Were you running the truck pan? Guess #6 is commonly the first to go with the oil starvation… Mine was starting to do the same. Sorry for the luck. But an engine swap should be a breeze after all that other work!

6, but it was .5qt low. Rotella 15w40. Not nearly enough as I'm learning!

Stock LS6 pump

LS3 pan

Yeah, It took me about 20 minutes to get the whole turbo kit off. Should have it ready to pull after another hour or so (since I'm pulling the trans out the bottom).

Plan is to put this engine on a stand for a winter project, that way I'll have a spare.

With the standard truck oil pump I had no issues with oil starvation my first motor. I had multiple wheels up 1.3x 60’s. Installed a high volume GM pump this winter (2nd motor) and it would suck the pan down far enough to give me issues on the launch. “Improved Racing” makes a baffle kit for that pan that would be the easiest solution IMO. I just installed one last time around (3rd motor) with a factory truck pump. No issues so far. Only been a 1.50 60' so far thou.

Not sure 100% on the LS3 pan, but on the Fbody pan I could run a hair under 8qts without an issue. With the engine running the oil level was still well below my drain line on the pan. Some say this causes windage issues too. Others feel it has very little effect. I still run 1qt over full with my improved racing baffle.

Good call. Last I knew they just made baffles for the LS1 pans. I see them now though.

So do you run 7 quarts then?

About 6.5. Stock48 kept telling me horror stories about his cars losing 50whp on dynos running the pan over full. He scared me away from my usual 7.5.

With the pan level...First pic is 5 qts, second and third are 6qts. (fbody pan). Thats not including the oil filter, and the level drops a good 2" with the engine running.

With my engine running and level I added oil until it came out of the aft turbo drain hole. It was right around 8qts. That was with the high volume pump and 5w30 oil.

When you say "LS3 Pan", there are a few different LS3 pans available. If you have the 2010+ LS3 Camaro pan, they can hold 8 quarts and perform well with our baffling.

We have a baffle and windage tray combo for the LS3 C6 Corvette pan now available as well. It's being released this week.

You can see the different oil pans and their dimensions here: http://www.improvedracing.com/tech/L...dimensions.php

Do you know if you have the LS3 Corvette or LS3 Camaro pan?

It's $259 for the baffle and crank scraper/windage tray with free shipping.

Wow. If I go that route the oil pan / baffle will be worth twice the rest of the engine!

Does that come with any kind of guarantee? haha

On a serious note, Is a different windage tray required?

Running a quart+over full is tried and true, even in the 4 banger world. I'd rather lose a few HP than a motor! We also tested this and running a full 2 quarts over on a c5 with a long stroke lost 13hp up top. I'd give that to keep a motor ANY day!

They do have a lifetime warranty and 30-day money back guarantee. And with the baffle you're good to about 1.4 sustained lateral G's.

Yes, the windage tray is required and you can't get a baffle without it. The baffle won't fit with the stock windage tray. Our windage tray will also typically gain you about up to 4 HP at the wheels. I've attached a few photos. The baffle is upside down in the photos.

Couple short videos I took before pulling the turbo and sending it off.

Car was idling, and I shut it off.

This shows the abnormal noise I'm hearing on shut-down. Still spins pretty well, but it was starting to flutter and contact the housing under boost.

Also, here's a little shaft play (and screaming) for you lonely blokes.

For some reason I thought you where running an ON3 unit. I went with TN as well due to their warranty. Glad to see they are taking care of it.
