Got a little done tonight. Built a radiator and intercooler out of some foam I had laying around. This further reinforced the need to cut out some core support.

Here it is after the bottom half of the core support has been removed.

As you can see, this really opens up the engine bay. I'll likely end up cutting it all out, and making a new one out of sheet metal. This will also go over the radiator in the rear, and become the shroud for the E fan to mount to. That is the current plan anyway.

I also made an intercooler out of foam. Use your imagination.

Thanks man.

Yeah, it went a best of a 1.48 60' this year, with plenty of 1.500 and 1.5x's. The diff loved it! I will be making a little bit more robust mounting system for it though, i was still getting some flex from the current mounts on launch.

Worked on locating the turbo tonight.

Trying to run this, or the 2520 filter which is 5". Not sure if it will give me the flow I'll need....? Anyone have experience with this?

2" crossover if you haven't already made the larger. It will help spool and I'm making 850-900whp with 2" now with a 75/83 BW S475.

Stock rod bolts unless your spinning to the moon.

hmmm Well I've bought 2.25 already. Maybe I'll just keep that around and buy some 2". I'd be curious to know exactly the difference in spool of 2" vs 2.25".

That filter looks quite smashed. I would look into an aFe unit, they make some very large ones.

After looking at the CFM of those filters, you guys are completey right.

Anyone have any PN's of some 4" inlet filters that might do the job?

Edit: thoughts on this one? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/afe-24-91009

Also, PN of GM rod bolts for this '05 5.3?

From what ive read 2" starts to become a restriction around 1000 crank. Lots of 2.125" piping on ebay. Think ill split the difference and run that. good luck, car looks great!

That aFe looks like a nice piece, just run the absolute biggest you can fit.

On the rod bolt thing, ARP or Katech ones are cheap insurance, unless you don't want to pull the engine.

Wink

Get an Ebay cold air initake kit for a 2000-2005 Silverado. They are like $69 and have a huge filter; much larger than the one from Summit. I have one on my 2002 suburban and its very good quality. Plus it comes with the intake elbow, and silicone adpters and an aluminum tube.

It saves a couple bux and works well.

Well the 5.3 is on a stand in my garage right now. Haven't heard what the consensus is on re-sizing rods with the ARP's.

Bends showed up today, so I was able to get to work on a couple small things. Started with my 3" to 4" transition for my downpipe. Bought this 2.25"-4" cone from columbia river, and had the v band.

High tech, precision scribing device

Cut using cutoff wheel on 4" angle grinder, and cleaned up

Finished Product:
