any difference between a 2004 lq9 and a 2005 lq9?

Default any difference between a 2004 lq9 and a 2005 lq9?

looking at 2 different motors with similar mileage. Are there any internal differences? Thanks

Could be different rods. Look at the valley cover bolts...10mm means old style rods.

out of curiosity what size valley cover bolts means the new style rods

Thanks. I'll check for that. Are you sure that is lq9 parts and not lq4? I've been reading other stuff that says all lq9's have the good rods and lq4's changed in mid 04.

I'm not sure. The LQ9 came out quite a while before the LS2, so I wouldn't think its very likely for it to have those rods. They'd have to go back as far as 2002.

there is no difference between the 04 and 05, they probably are from the same run. the LQ9's have the full float rods and flat top pistons, that's why many have got'n away with big power on them.

The majority of 2004 engines I've seen have the old rods in them. It was a late model year switch.

More than likely both are the same. Valley cover will tell if its a new style.
