best turbo for a 417ci motor?
Well im trying to help a friend out and while I do have a few options in mind already I wont mention them so they don't influence any descisions.
Setup is a 9.5:1 built 417ci motor with ported L92 heads. fully built 6l80 transmission and a 3500 stall converter, meth and 93 octane, looking to make peak power after 6000rpms since shifts happen at 6500-6700rpms depending on gear.
What would be the best single turbo for this application and why?
The most important question is looking at about 17psi of boost.
thanks!

Boost is irrelevant. Power, torque and power delivery are important.
There is no universal best, you need to be more specific about what the driver actually wants or expects any turbocharger to do for him.

Boost is very relevant because we don't want to go past a certain boost NUMBER to make sure we don't lift the heads and to read the pressure ratio axis on the compressor efficiency chart. On the other hand I don't know how much airmass the motor will flow at 16psi so I cant read the other axis.
Truck will be a street truck only and perhaps see a drag event once or twice a year without actually competing.
Thanks

But are you aiming for 500hp, 1000hp, 1500hp ?
And boost doesnt lift heads, cylinder pressure can. Whilst the two are linked to a degree they are not the same.
The killer is running too close to detonation or getting greedy with timing.

I would call or email Jon over at Huron Speed. He can get you in the right direction. My motor set up keeps changing and he keeps getting me in the right direction with a turbo. I am doing a 408 and he suggested me a hybrid turbo from Comp because that's why I already purchased and its an amazing piece. He told me to do a CT43 compressor side with a 78 mm billet wheel and at CT5 hot side with a 94-96 mm wheel on a 1.00-1.10 A/R because I am a manual 6-speed car. He told me I will be good for over 1000 rwhp on my set up.

There is noway you can make 500bhp from a 417ci motor doing 17psi and peaking at 6500rpms. There is also noway a 417 will make 1500hp with 17psi either regardless of anything on pump and meth. I don't really care what horsepower the truck makes we will never dyno it, I have a boost limitation, a 3500 converter which means I don't care about boost until about 3500rpms and a target peak HP (plus the cam will be customized for the setup), there is no way I will measure cylinder pressure so that's irrelevant as well.
a proper tune is given, detonation will wreck havoc even if the heads don't lift.

I understand that and never claimed otherwise but have no way to estimate what the cylinder pressures will be nor will I measure them so I will just settle for 17psi which I know for a fact will work with this motor since weve done it before. Also im posting this on behalf of a friend of mine.

well since you're a wealth of knowledge why don't you enlighten us with the cylinder pressures at which will cause 4bolt heads to lift and at what boost level that will happen with a 9.5:1SCR motor. Ill provide you with all the details you need, but lets cut it short you will come up with some stupid excuse for not being able to answer wont you?
I wonder why you guys even post to begin with.
