86 trans am + 5.3L + turbo+ th400 + Moser 12bolt no F*ucks given build
Ok well I recently wrecked my 06 Gto, so I'm digging out my old trans am and do a no f*cks given 5.3l junkyard turbo build. The car gets here in june when I drive home to VA for my sisters graduation. So now I'm just collecting parts and info on what I need todo.
The Plan
5.3L motor
Built th400 trans with trans brake
quicktime performance 9inch UPDATE
Ebay turbo
Microsquirt engine management
Full tubular suspension from k member all the way back
ALOT of weight loss
"Street car death trap status"
The Car
1986 trans am t top car
8 point cage (might make it a 10)
Fully welded subframes
Gutted interior with 4th gen trans am dash and center console
Racing seats with 5 point harness
Ive owned the car for 4 years now and not once driven it. I was doing a lt1 swap on it then joined the army and put it on hold while I was in Korea and ended up buying a 06 gto - 2 years later I wrecked it and now here we are.
here is the link to the orignal build i was doing on it before i joined the army.. well times change and things happen and now its back in full swing and im determined to finish it this time

Origoal plan was for a 9in and it still might happen. I switch plans to a 12 bolt do to cost of a 9in bit I recenfly found a 82 firebird that already has a 9 in with a 4 link and is tubbed for about what I would have paid for a new 9in so I'm ganna try and pick that up to get my projeDr started only issue is it only has a bill of sale soo I'll have to transfer everything over to my car soo I can get tags on it

I've decided in mine im gonna be doing a S475 1.10a/r T6, with 2" crossover piping...4.8L LS6 cam. For only $649 you get a hell of a turbo with tons of room to grow.
If you are going the ebay route I would pick the GT45, much bigger turbine so it wont choke up top.. Guys are still making 600whp on them and they are a lot more reliable

funny you say that JAY RICH as i was just looking at those and decided to go with the gt45. i just sent martin at tick performance an email for a custom cam and some recommendations for stall size/type and rear end gear ratio. i dont wanna make any purchases till have the the motor on my stand and the car in my friends garage. which might be this weekend if i can swing it right.. and i was building the drivetrain up and going cheap with the motor so that if it came time to upgrade later i know my drivetrain would handle it..

Update.... so turbo choice is up in the air.. 5.3 is torn down to short block form. And after I get my cam from Martin the block will be going to the machine shop for a hot tank, hone, and new cam bearings. Sorry for not having pictures up yet but they will come soon. Parts starting to arrive and I'm getting excited.. got my head studs, 10.5mm spark plugs, rocker trunion upgrade, 5 in tach with shift light and recall, die grinder for porting my heads, intercooler, under drive pulley. Just ordered my lower end gaskets, still need to get my water pump and head gaskets lifters, timing chain and oil pump. Might at well order that all today. I'll have pics up soon

I currently use a MSII/Extra, and I really like it. In retrospect, I should have moved up to the III, just for the data logging alone.
With two big pumps, you should have much bigger lines. Like -10 feed and -8 return. Or seperate them out and use 2 -8 feeds and a single -8 return.
Both Aeromotive and AEM make single in tank pumps that are advertised to run 340lph.
With a return style system, it's really hard to make it too big.
