Default Looking for the best tq. converter for a turboed big HP 4L80E car

Im not sure if this should technically go in the trans section, but since its for a turbo build I figure id get better responses here.

Long story short, im making too much power for my current converter. its a 9" and works well, holds both locked up and stalls right at 3400 like I originally wanted, but once I really crank the boost up instead of just off the wastegates, it just cant hold it enough. Locked up its holding, but thats just a bandaid.

Who would you guys recommend for a good lockup converter that will hold north of 1200rwhp?

From the searching Ive done ive kinda narrowed it down to precision, coan, circle-d, or jakes.

Any feedback is helpful

I like my PTC, but I've heard circle d is good as well with their triple disc lockup.

its a Vortex converter, built by a local guy and friend of mine. Good converter, just not big enough for what I need. I think i need something larger diameter to drop the stall at full tilt and this one just wasnt designed for that. under 900hp its a bad little converter though for the money.

yeah im considering them, but my local trans guy said hes had a few issues with their converters, Dont know if hes ever had a 4l80 one specifically with issues though. Im also looking at the jakes one, but I PM'd him the other day and never heard back. PTC makes a TON of converters, theyve probably got the most experience just due to the volume.

I'm going to be buying an FTI, and will be having it very...specced, so we'll see.

FTI or Coan, both custom spec'd. I've been VERY happy with the customer service from FTI.

I've tried most of the big vendors with the same results you are having. I eventually solved my problem at a local shop in Axle Texas.

FTI. Hands down the best customer service. Used to have a circle d and was very happy with how it worked also.

He wanted the "best" big HP converter. Most of those mentioned in this thread are great average power converters, but aren't the absolute best converter.

OP, call Neal Chance. His NXS Full Billet converters are almost unrivaled, so if you want the best, this is it.

P.S., they start at $5600 and go up from there. Lockup versions start at $7300 and go up. Better start saving.

I would personally start by trying to not spend $7,300 to get a lockup converter, unless it was the only option available. If he has a 9" now, a 10.5" "mid power level" custom specc'd converter may be sufficient for what he is trying to accomplish (it is questionable though).

If the goal is every hundredth at the strip, different ballgame, but I didn't get impression from the OP.

PTC probably knows turbo cars the best, however I put a Circle D triple disk in a customers 1000whp 80E and lock feels like another gear when it locks. Very happy with it and its taking the punishment.

Circle-D in mine and have been happy with it. Chris is awesome. I also talked with FTI and they are great as well. Any of the big name converter guys you can't go wrong with. My advice, talk them all and see how you feel after the conversation.

In big HP turbo cars it is hard to beat Pro Torque. They spool great and couple up even better down the track. I know NC is getting there on the turbo converters too.
