Default Can we get our stock bottom end 5.3 in the 4's???

That's what we're going to attempt in just a few days at Lights Out V in Valdosta. What do you guys think, is it possible? Here's a rundown of the setup: grouted stock block, stock crank, stock pistons, stock rods with bolts, replacement stock rings with the gap opened up, replaced bearings. Ported stock heads, 799 castings. Using methanol for the fuel. Same engine we ran all last season. We had an old PT88 turbo mounted sideways in the engine compartment last year, using stock manifolds. Now we have stainless headers and hot side. With a forward facing GT55, dual 4" downpipes. Think its got it in it, if it stays together? Predictions?

Time slip from last Sept. In Valdosta. We ran these identical times twice, at 3000lbs.

60ft- 1.18
330ft- 3.31
ET- 5.09
MPH- 137.8

Im you guys biggest fan, but since it has upgraded bolts(arp) its no longer a stock bottom end.

just making the playing field fair for the guys who have ALL stock parts.

can it run 4s with mostly stock stuff? I think its possible and if anyone can do it, you guys can. good luck.

This is the old turbo setup with the PT88:

Defining "stock bottom end" is like defining "street car." No one will agree.

Tuff call, good luck though! It is really cool to see how fast you can go with a junk yard engine. I think you will be pushing those rods in every respect now to go 4s!!! Either way you cut it to get a 4 weather it be back half gains, front half or both it will be tuff. More power to the 60 might do the rods in and more power in the back half might do the same hahaha.

Go for it though, if everything falls in line you might be the first and only car to the 4s with one. Should we start placing bets now? I will say 5.035@139.5.

The rods are what we've been skeptical of the most. In September we were certain that it was going to give up on us, but it kept taking all the power that PT88 would make. This GT55 is a different animal, though.

We're going to try our best.

We're hoping it'll 60ft the same and then roll out the back with a little more steam. The best runs were leaving on 8.5lbs and rolling it up to 30lbs in 1.5 seconds. If we left on more boost it drug the bumper. Lol

That's exactly how I want my turbo sitting and the downpipes too. Man that's awesome.

Seems that maybe your best bet to make your goal, might be a little suspension tuning so you can leave on more boost without dragging the bumper...

Are you running the 05 up rods ?

I think you can do it if you hit the perfect combo...Weather, tune, track, suspension etc.

Will be fun to see...

I was wondering what happened with this car. We were just talking about it here in the office the other day. Curious to see what this new setup does and how long it can hold up

you guys should be like a funny car team and have spare short blocks

wouldn't be all that expensive, and as long as you can thrash a new motor in who cares if it blows up

good luck!

I think it will do it easy as long as the engine holds. From pt88 to a gt55 is a big jump in power, im sure he has that pt88 maxed out as well.
