Default 88 Mustang 5.3/S475/4L80E Swap First Track Outing

Took my 88 Mustang 5.3/S475/4L80E swap to the track today for the first time. Set it to make about 8 lbs of boost, AFR's were 11.4-6 and timing was about 15 degrees, very conservative I know but I wanted to be safe. Car went 6.98 @ 99 MPH and 1.62 60' Car has alot more left in it but I had a blast and didn't break anything!

Thanks! Stock 5.3 cam for now, but I have an 03 Z06 cam. I'll pull the motor this summer and swap the cam, springs, and head studs. I'm thinking about doing a little head work at the same time but I don't know if its really worth the power gain. They are just 852's

Went to the local 1/4 mile track last night. Car went 10.51 @134 1.58 60' on 14 lbs and 10 degrees of timing. I'm having some issues with the converter locking and unlocking during the 3rd gear shift, but other than that I'm very happy with the car!

Had a buddy throw the car on the dyno last week, made 568 on low timing and 14 lbs of boost, stock 5.3 w/ls6 valve springs and 80lb injectors, love this thing!

Nice!
I bet 14 lbs is a lot more fun than 8 huh!

Thanks guys, turbo is a 75mm, 87mm turbine 1.10 housing, lights pretty quick. 14 lbs is useless on the street with radials but is a total blast. Still chipping away at the tune, but I love driving this thing!

Congrats so far not bad at all for a stock 5.3. See what it will do with some more boost before doing anything else.

I have heard 15 psi is it for the stock TTY head bolts, not sure if I want to push the issue.

Grab some head studs from Asper for less than $100. You can put them in without removing the heads, just install them one at a time using the normal torque sequence for installing bolts/studs.

Lots of people use PSI ratings for EVERYTHING. PSI is irrelevant to almost every piece of hardware other than your fuel pressure regulator and map since. Torque/HP often dictate how long parts will last.

Nice runs! Looks like a fun car.

What does the Mustang weigh with you in it?
