Hopefully all of the fabrication is finished in the next few weeks, but I just haven't had time since Christmas and haven't worked on it. Next I can prep for paint. After that its fire, tune, and post it up. To say its a budget build is an understatement. I even impressed myself with how much money I don't have in this one.
So why the **** are you here? lol

S480 and new leaf springs will be on this week. Back to dyno this weekend. Track on 11th.

Besides the other unnamed project, I've also started 2 other considerable projects. All 3 of them will be done by summer. Big things a brewin'.

Borg Billet S480.

Still with a 1.10 T4. With a 5.3 and a small cam, I was able to top out the billet S475 with a small turbine. Since I'm limited to 29 PSI with a 3 bar MAP, I've got to start doing things to increase my power per PSI. When I drive this thing back/forth to work all spring/summer/fall, the boost is set at 20-22 lbs lol. Switching back to TBSS intake is next. Ported heads afterwards.

Since I haven't actually made a full 1/4 mile pass in the car yet (I usually spin through 1st/2nd), I'm hoping to do a few 60 foot hits next weekend and as soon as I get the 2-step dialed in to where I can cut a 1.50 60' or better, run it out the back. The power is easily there for a 9.40 @ 145 on the pump gas street tune on the old S475, so I'm shooting for a mid-9 first pass. I have it set up so I can run wastegate only in 1st gear, but I'm still not sure if its going to hook in first with 15 lbs.

I've started building a custom dash for my Nova, which is one of the major projects I've been working on. Plug and play with stock PCM via OBD-II port. 7" touch screen. So far it reads factory PIDs and displays them on the screen. As of now it reads/displays Speed, RPM, Water Temp, IATs, MAP reading, TPS, PCM Voltage. I'm working on having it read custom PIDs that I've setup. My wideband, oil pressure, and fuel pressure are all currently pinned into the stock PCM and being logged in HPT. I should be able to get them to display on the screen fairly easily. It also reads/clears DTCs which has been great.

The beauty is that I have relay control working as well. All of the features of a stand-alone on a stock PCM. It will do:
-Nitrous control based on TPS/RPM and armed via a simple ON button on the screen.
-Water/Meth control based on kPa.
-2nd Fuel pump control based on kPa.
-Boost cut based on kPa.
-Overtemp shutdown based on ECT.
-Fan control based on MPH/ECT.
-Automatic shut down based on oil pressure.

I've been working on PWM outputs as well, which will give it PWM fan/fuel pump control, and boost control. I will be able to configure boost based on RPM, Speed, or Time.

So far, it works great with my 1.8" prototype. I've been programming non-stop for a few days on the 7" touch screen and its slowly coming together.

Display screen looks like it's comin out great. I've got eh Holley system with the 3.5" LCD and it displays a ton of stuff and the new upgrade allows a lot of changes to be made from it as well (boost control, rev limiters, flex fuel tables, etc). Nice to have all that at your fingertips. Good luck at the track. Try not to only concentrate on the 60s. Get it to run and stay hooked past the 330' and you'll be set. Remember, radials like to be bitch slapped and held down! Get em stuck and keep em stuck with power. Taking power out to make the car hook can be like going backwards.

60' is the main problem. My last trip to the track saw me topping 3rd gear before the 330' because it was spinning so hard. I can easily trap 110 in the 1/8th by launching easy and just driving through first.

I was under the impression you can skew the sensor readings on a 3 bar and run more boost. The engine won’t know the difference. If you tell the ECU 4.9v is 30lbs, you can skew the readings so 4.9v is 35lbs… 40lbs etc… Then tune around it in the lower map ranges. I know AKnovaman was talking about skewing MAPS on the MS3. Says its super easy with that software anyway.

Good luck, Can’t wait to see results!

I'm already scewing it by 25 kPa. its fairly easy to change the settings and then do work to the VE table by the same % as the change. Thompson said I can get some 300 CFM CNC 317 heads for $900. I can sell my 799s and cover half of that. Plus the switch to a TBSS intake. I should be able to make the same power I would on 30 PSI at ~24 PSI. I'm already struggling to keep detonation in check with 93 pump gas.

Easily go 110 in the 1/8? That's cookin. If that's the case, you should be able to easily go 140. That'd be mid 9 second range.

My billet S480 delivered yesterday.
After waiting 2 months on a turbo, they sent it back with a smaller turbine wheel and smaller housing.

I'm not exactly thrilled with Apex at the moment.

Apex Performance Turbos Inc? If so I've had issues with them as well. I hope it gets straightened out faster than my issues did. My issues took over 2months to correct. They have terrible communication. Good luck man.

Yep, Apex Performance Turbos. I was told a 'few days turnaround' when I sent my turbo back to them. I had 1/4" of in/out play and it was sprewing oil. My downpipe would smoke at idle, my compressor housing would be dripping oil after I made boost. I shipped it on December 28th. Before it arrived to them I paid like $379 for a new compressor housing, billet 80mm wheel, and return shipping.

2 months later, February 28th, I get a package containing brand new turbo (not my old one rebuilt), but it has a tiny turbine. I doubt I get this issue resolved anytime soon.

Right now it boils down to how bad I want to be at the track next weekend. There are a few of us going and I don't want to miss out.

I can skip the track and put the turbo up for sale, and pick up something like the billet On3 88/83. Or I can say screw it and run the turbo, even though I paid money for an upgraded compressor and ended up losing money on a downgraded turbine. It'll also reduce resale value if I run it....

If you do end up selling the turbo to buy another why not try the vsr s480 billet rather than the on3.

Because I'm currently setup for a fast spooling T4 and my cam/converter combo is aimed towards mid-range power. The current setup was so well put together that turbo lag was virtually non-existant and I made so much mid-range torque that it would scare the nitrous big block guys and still pull cleanly to the limiter. I can build 20 PSI at the line with a 3200 stall.

If I go with a large turbine T6, I'll lose the near-perfect balancing act.

Gotcha. I just didn't know how much different the on3 88 would be compared to a borg. What size turbo did they end up sending you?
