Default Need Help Broke Maf

I have a 99 trans am with ls1 with d1sc procharger. Took it out last this week and made 7lbs of boost. My GM 85mm maf broke in two where the two ends of the maf are epoxied together. What are my options I don't want to run the plastic maf anymore after this happened. I was hoping to buy a metal maf the same size but was told I would have to re-tune. Do you have to retune if you put on a different brand maf. I know most people are going speed density and if a new tune is need anyways that's the way I'm going to go but was trying to save money. The car was running great with the tune that was in it until the maf blew in two.

Well there's always JB Weld.

Seriously though, try to pick up a set of ends off ebay or maybe even a sponsor will have a set of metal ones. Boost breaks things as you're learning.

I know you saw the responses on BoostedLSX about going to SD, but honestly, at this stage, either replace it with identical which is going to cost you, or switch to SD which is going to cost you as well.

You might not, it all depends. Here's the thing. A maf measures airflow based on how it sees airflow through the sensor. So if your tuner customized your tune based on the flow characteristics of the broken maf, and now you put a different maf on there, it might not be calibrated or read the airflow the same.

For a NA setup, that's not a huge deal, but in a FI setup it could be way off.

Buy a stock 85mm off ebay or etc for $50 identical to yours and get it running like it was.

Then either save up for a metal housing unit. (Most I have seen are larger than 85mm) and a retune. OR go SD and dump the MAF.

Even if the housing was the same size on a metal MAF, the electronics will not be the same. So, there is a good chance it won't be correct.

Like the Alchemist said hopefully it was tuned based on the maf being good.
