Default B15 376 LSX crate engine with a 4.5 liter Whipple!

This is a box stock B15 crate engine with a 4.5l Whipple sandrail kit. Made 1028hp with 24 pounds of boost! Then they took out the baby cam and replaced it with a bigger one which dropped the boost to 22psi and made 1079hp!
I wish I had more info like dyno sheets and cam specs but I don't at the moment. There will be an article on this test soon. But for now, here's some pics and a dyno pull.

GM only rates the B15 376 LSX to handle up to 15 PSI of boost, so it's already well beyond what it should be pushing out as far as Hp-n-Tq.
So is this just a test-mule engine just to see how much boost it can handle before the engine self-destructs..?

This test is to prove that the B15 is under rated as far as strength and can safely produce a high amount of power. I believe this engine is going into a late 70's station wagon drag car. The goal was to take an easy power combo and go well into the 9's. Nothing easier than a crate engine with a bolt on blower kit on top

You'll have to keep us posted on how well the B15 holds up over time. I'm sure many others, besides myself would be interested to see how well it handles 22psi in the long run.

BTW, what was the TQ was with the larger cam at 22psi, also any idea what 15psi on the B15 (stock cam) would roughly translate into as far as HP &TQ..?

I'll post up any info I hear about. But they might not reveal too much info since this will be for a magazine article. They didn't do any pulls with that low of boost. I'd imagine 15psi would make around 850 give or take 50hp. That's just a guess though.

You think that's cool? Check out the tensioner on a copo Camaro...that 2 step is violent!

No, just a crate lsx. The copo engines are different in displacement and come with a 2.9 front feed or a 4.0. This is a 4.5

Hey there isn't anything wrong with a cowl hood...or no hood for that matter! Lol. Why would you want to hide that beauty anyways? Haha

I wonder if the VFN 4" cowl would work with that setup?

Haha, I wouldn't hide it. Was just making a statement about its size! That thing is a beast. I'd rather run a cutout than a cowl.

On what kind of a car? A fourth gen? If so, this thing would never fit without cutting the cowl out. Lol
