Default 67 Tempest 5.3 S475 First Fire Up and DRIVE (VIDEOS)

First off this forum has been an amazing, from my first build on this car with an modified LS1 to this current 5.3 I've been busting my *** on lately. I finally got everything put together this afternoon and got to fire it up for the first time today. Still a few little odds and ends to finish up. I've got a couple exhaust leaks to deal with, a small oil leak where the pressure line is at (cheap ebay plate probably). Otherwise it idled really well using a slightly tweaked HP Tuners file that I found on sloppy mechanics wiki with very similar setup.

The car is a 1967 Pontiac Tempest that I was running a modified LS1 w/ built TH400 and MS4 cam. That car was fun and fast, but I wanted boost. I've learned a TON from you guys here in this section. And got a lot of help from Lil John's as well with a custom grind cam and helping to select the right parts to go along with this.

2001 Junkyard 5.3 with S475 1.32a/r 3Bar SD Tune HPTuners, Lil John's custom grind cam, Brian Tooley Valve springs and pushrods, 80lb SD injectors, Dual 40mm JGS wastegates and 60mm JGS BOV, FTI converter, Fully built TH400, 2- derale pushers, and a bunch of other crap too

Next up is a first drive, but this was exciting enough for today!!

First Fire Up

Second Fire Up

Took it for a little spin today. Running just wastegate spring pressure for now, next up is hooking up boost controller.

Very cool. I had a '64 GTO and '68 Lemans back in the day, love the 64-67 2 door body style.

LOL Sarg, yes I know I have had a couple people ask the same question. I am going to be running a flexible dipstick that I should be coming from Summit today. I just stuck that stock one in there for now so no oil came out the hole, and no debris could get in.

Thanks for the compliments guys. Many many hours of work into this thing, and now many more tuning it too.

Thanks John, this has always been my favorite body style and I had a chance to snag this one cheap a couple years ago with a worn down 400 motor with spun bearings, bottom end knock, and a TH350 that wouldn't go into reverse. But flawless interior and good paint. Now its onto its second LS power plant. I'm sure my wife wishes I had just bought a new S4, this cost me more every month.

Congrats on getting it fired up and going Paul!!

With that gate layin that close to the turbine housing.... might want to monitor the gate for heat stress and make sure its not getting cooked. Maybe build a little heat shield that bolts to the top two bolts of the turbine housing and comes up between the housing and the gate... simple piece of sheetmetal will work.
