Default 02 Z28 Huron Speed Kit / On3 7875

I just finished tuning this car and I'm very impressed with it. A friend of mine finished the build in a little over a week using a Huron Speed V1 truck manifold kit and the new On3 7875. Currently the car is only on 6lbs and pump 91. This is the smaller wastegate spring, we're hoping to test the larger spring (10-11lbs) later this week.

02 Z28 55k
ls1/t56
228/228 114 cam
60lb injectors/racetronix fuel setup
HP 2 bar OS tuned
Mighty Mouse catch can
Derale pusher fans

Third gear pull on 6lbs/141 kpa.

Quick idle and under the hood video.

Huron Speed ftw!

Thanks to lt1ray for tuning it and helping me get the kit together, and advice. the build went pretty smooth, and turned out great. The huron speed kit fit good and looks nice . Best part is most people look at it and really can't tell that turbo is chillin down there. The on3 78/75 overall I'm really happy with it, has tested to not give me any issues yet. It's decently quiet turbo you can't really hear any spool like the turbonetics until you hit boost then it gets loud. Currently re workig my wastegate setup to try and amp the boost up a little.

Cant wait to see final numbers and/or track results. I have this turbo sitting in my garage but wont be going into the car till next year so I am eagerly waiting to see what the turbo is capable of.

Hell yea, congrats. And does look kind of stealthy. Can't wait to see some track times and dyno #'s. The on3 78 seems to be doing very well in LS powered cars

The car is currently on 11lbs now and the owner doesn't really have intentions of turning it up. It feels fast and is easily making low 600's for hp, its really the perfect street car setup.

May just take the plunge and get one. Is VS racing the only dealer?

Vs racing sells the same one minus the branding on the comp housing.

Is on3 all out of stock?

Yeah I was on ebay the other day and all on3's listings were gone. He does that from time to time for some reason. All of it will be back or is back up there now I bet.

Does on3 advertise it as the compressor inducer being something like 76.1 or something like that? Around 360$ shipped?

No, that's their 7665. I emailed Chad about 3 weeks ago. He said that the next batch is in the middle of production and wont be ready for another 4 - 5 weeks. So maybe another week or two before they're back on ebay. The last time he had them they were $420 shipped.

LT1Ray did you notice any boost creep with the V1 huron speed hotside?

I picked up a huron speed hotside that has the original 38mm wastegate flange and have been worried about boost creep while running the 78/75 turbo. I'm running an lm7 with ls6 intake, tick 223/223 114+5 .617 lift, and a 4l80E with a Circle D 3600 stall. I plan on starting with 8lbs and working up from there, but I don't want to be dealing with boost creep.

Let me know if you had any issues. Thanks!

On this car, no. Here's a screen shot of the log from the video above.

The purple line is boost and its pretty flat once the wastegate opens up. This is using a XS Power 45mm wastegate with the small spring (red?).

But my old Camaro which had a HS V1 kit and a Turbonetics 7875 had boost creep. This was using a Turbonetics RG45 wastegate. Here's a screen shot of it.

The boost curve on this car isn't nearly as flat and this was using a 8lb spring in the wastegate. But it never really bothered me, I've always thought of boost creep as a poor mans traction control haha.

This is a 3rd and 4th gear pull which hits 16lbs on the boost gauge.

But here's where it gets interesting. Last year when I still owned the car I decided to swap from a T56 to a 4L80e with a Yank converter. With no other changes to the car or the tune (besides updating the auto shift tables) it did NOT boost creep. This is an old log using that same 8lb spring and the auto.

After going through two 4L80's I decided to switch back to a T56 setup which is currently in the car and in the video above. If the hotside is off the car I would chop the old flange off and weld a 45mm gate on. I actually like the XS Power 45mm gate and it's priced right. Hopefully this novel helps haha!
