Default PT88 low mile failure

I've read quiet a bit of Precision product failures, usually within low miles. I even though about selling mine and buying something else for the peace of mind but decided to run it anyways. Bad decision, PT88, bought it from a member on here and it was brand new. I got about 100 miles out of the turbo before it seized today. Been spooling great and showed no abnormal signs of operation.

Made a couple runs on the interstate this morning, drove around town for a bit and stopped at home depot, on the way home I noticed it wasn't spooling, brought it back, popped off the filter and the shaft wouldn't spin at all. Truck showed normal oil pressure, First thing I checked was the feed line and verified it was working. -4an feed (unrestricted) -10an drain.

Looks like the thrust bearing failed from gummed up aluminum debris, part of the housing. Any ideas what would cause this? Only thing I can think of is lack of oil but there was oil present. I did read on another forum, that precision uses a steel bushing rather than brass and that's related to their turbo failures, any truth to this?

Seeing as I'm the 2nd owner of this turbo I doubt precision will warranty anything but I'm going to contact em anyways.

Sorry to hear that sucks. I am seriously disappointed with Precisions QA these days. A few years ago when I had my 2JZ setup and into the import motors they were an elite turbo company. Now it looks like its buy at your own risk. Hopefully they step up to the plate.

I bet Precision is going to tell you that the -4 line is too small and you starved it for oil lol. I had a Garrett on my car for about 2.5 years and switched to a Precision which lasted about three months and thats what they told me, their stuff sucks! I sent it to Work Turbos and no more issues!

When volume goes up considerably, QC can suffer. Precision's marketing department is out doing their operations in my view. The turbo's R&D is impressive and they make big power, which marketing is doing a great job taking care of them. Full sponsored race programs are probably getting their top assemblers. The masses are probably getting assembly done form an amateur following directions. Just my opinion -

My brand new PT88 seized up after about 100miles , -4 oild feed , -10 drain, will never buy that crap again, it coasts around 300-400$ to rebuild if not too damaged if i remember correctly

Iv read that a few times now when iv heard about early 7675 or 88s failing. what are they recomending to use if a -4 is too small?
