Default Procharger pulley bolt keeps backing out?

F1 Procharger - I used blue locktite 242, and with the belt on the car + a buddy holding the pulley, I can torque to around 30 ft-lb, but not more... we just can't hold the pulley. After about 50 miles the bolt will start backing out.

I'm afraid of using red loctite, as the last part I used that stuff, I nearly destroyed trying to get it apart. It took a blow torch and an impact.

Any advice?

Maybe you could try some kind of a lock washer on it? It shouldnt need locktite to stay put. The pulley is keyed and not spinning it off. Are you sure the belts are aligned properly?

Is the balancer pinned? It needs more than 30 ft/lbs to stay put. It's better to keep the crank from turning at the flywheel or flexplate, better mechanical advantage.

Lock-washer... damn, hadnt thought of that. I will try it, and then red loctite if that does not work.

Sorry, I'm talking about the pulley on the supercharger itself. But yes, both my crank and the supercharger are keyed.

Thanks everybody!

I used an electric impact to tighten the bolt and never had an issue.

If room permits you could also get a boxed end wrench on it and smack the end with a ball peen hammer quickly to help tighten it. Maybe try it with your friend holding the pulley and belt to keep it from turning for extra resistance? The quick taps should be more sucessful than just a slow tighten to 30ft/lbs.

I removed the head unit to change the pulley, and like I said, used one of the electric impacts on it, and it snugged up tight with no issues.
