I got my first test/tune outing with the new 4.5L whipple and it went pretty good. The air sucked (DA @5500”) but I got a few good passes and it got a decent tune in it.

The first thing I found out pretty quick is that my converter is WAY too tight. It drops over 2000 RPM between shifts and hits like a freakin’ hammer when you shift. The most boost I could get out of it with the air I had to work with and the only pulley I had was about 12 lbs... I gotta get a new blower pulley before I go out again. But my best pass of the day was 9.0 @ 153. I could have probably done a little better but I tach stopped working so I had to guess where to ****. Most of the time I shifted early (mid/low/high 7000’s) and the converter would the engine and blower speed down 2000 RPM and kill the boost... Very frustrating. But I can fix all of that so no worries.

Below is a video of my last pass for the day. You can clearly see how hard it’s shifting LOL!

I'm running a 4.5" pulley up top. And I just looked at my data logs again, and on the pass in the video it's dropping 2,464 RPM when I shift!!! I have near ZERO % slippage! LMAO!

Check it out... Purple trace is TPS, red trace is RPM and the green trace is boost. :-)

What size lower are you running? 8"? If so, you're barely turning that blower. Lol. Are you currently running E85?

I never realized that you could have too tight of a converter. Lol. What would the ideal amount of slippage be for a glide blower car?

Yep, it's a 8" pulley! My buds were effin' with me at the track saying that I should paint this pulley pink and take my "man pulley" away from my wife!

IMHO it should drop no more than 800/1000 RPM between shifts.

Never got over 30 degrees above ambient or my starting temp and that was only at the very end of the pass.

Nice! I've been on the fence about getting the big innercooler (2" taller) but now I will feel better about the standard one if I decide to keep it. Do you think a taller innercooler would help much? I figure if I'm going to cut the hood, I may as well stick it out further. lol

For the surface area, yes. But if you can't get water through it any faster then probably not much. I'm running ice water through mine as fast as I can (limited by the intercooler plumbing, -12 AN max)

I super cool the intercooler then add 5 gallons of ice/water to my supply tank before the pass... It's as good as it's gonna get.

Just double checked...max rpm in a drag application is 20,000 rpm or 18,000 continuous.
