Would around $1,000 buy a forged rod and piston set with rings?

quadriplegic, The Diamond piston and file fit performance ring combo is $799, You can use a scat rod for $339 making the total $1138. This is probably the closest you will get to the $1000 mark with a quality piece. Let us know if we can help you.
Thank you,
Kyle

Kyle, I'm aware it depends on the tune. Knowing that, at what power level could that package take you with a 80mm turbo? Around 1000rwhp? 800rwhp? Just a ball park. Thank you sir, Allan

Allan,
We do not recommend using the scat I beam over 800HP. If you use the TMS H-beam ($489 w/ARP 8740 $589 with ARP 2000) you are good far beyond this. We have customers running forged piston and rod motors over 1000whp without fail.

What about the Scat H-Beams?

We recommend the Thompson Motorsports H beam over the scat.

Lil John just came out with a custom boost piston for the 5.3 stuff made by Wiseco. The look to be a nice piece. Here's the quote from his FB post about it...

Ok Fella's... The Details on the LJMS custom 5.3 Boost pistons are finalized and I have 5 sets scheduled to be delivered on the 18th of this month. These are Wiseco pistons...Flat top with 3.2cc valve reliefs, 3.800 bore 1.304 pin height for stock stroke. They will be equipped with a 1.0mm/1.2mm/2.8mm ring package that has a Stainless top and Napier 2nd compared to the Plasma moly HF ring package of the shelf pistons. They come with the .200 wall H13 .927 Diameter Tool Steel pins standard as well.... I will take preorders on these 5 sets if you guys want them. Pricing for these will be 749.00 a set. That's 150 dollars less than the current shelf piston that's available and it has a better ring pack!! Combine them with a set of the Compstar Rods that I carry and I will do you a complete rod and piston package for 1299.

They are $489 with 8740 and $589 with ARP 2000. The rods are 4340 forgings. Let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Run the Wiseco pistons with GFX rings and Compstar rods. These are proven parts used by many guys with boosted applications and they're reasonably priced. Yes there are more top of line options available, but these will live far beyond your power goals at a great price.

Just my $.02

There is no GFX ring pack for the 3.80 bore. Trust me there was I wouldve offered it long ago. These pistons I've had made with the XX ring pack are as close as we can get. Ive got my pistons at 749 a set final price... 1299 with rods.... and on black friday they will be 1249 with Callies Compstar rods/arp 2k bolts.

John - they previously made the GFX ring pack in a 1.2/1.2/3mm and pistons that match, but not 1/16 1/16 3/16 for 3.780 and 3.800 bores. The part # is 3.780GFX check out the link below. Looks like some vendors either have stock still available or have Wiseco make this on special runs.

If I could get a GFX ring pack in 3.80 bore... i wouldn't have made the pistons that I did. The HF ring pack is the only one available for the 3.78/3.80 bore pistons....
