Default S480 WS6 Formula Build

I am part way into my boost build so I guess it's time to begin my new build thread. I started out with a 2000 WS6 Formula bolt-on car. It's been 13's, 12's, 11's and now 10's with a 6 speed. My goal was to see 9's on a 150 shot with the 6 spd but I didn't quite get there, the best time ended up 10.30@131 mph then the weather turned cold. Time for winter tear down!

My new goal is to get this car in the high 8's with boost and the forged LS1 bottom end. Here are some of my plans:

Front Mount truck manifold build
Borg Warner S480 billet
Treadstone intercooler
Forged LS1
10.5:1 compression on E85
Trick Flow 215 heads
Solid Roller cam spec'd by John Bewley and ground by Cam Motion
4L80 with a Precision Industries 3600 converter
3.55 or 3.73 gears in a Moser 12 bolt
28" tall Et Streets
Still a street car but has a little weight reduction
Plans to make a few trips to the track each year and plans to beat my son. ;-)

Considered reusing the stock radiator but quickly found out that it won't work. I cut out the top and bottom core support and I am fabricating the lower mounts. I also modified my stock fans and moved the radiator forward just far enough that I can mount the stock hood latch assembly yet. The radiator sits as far forward and as high as possible.

You think if you had went with pusher fans you could have kept the upper support? Build looks good though..

Couldn't tell but did you fab your own hotside?

,nice build

My radiator fit right under my top core suport flush mounted... I switched to pushers recently which also freed up room, now I got about 3" between radiator and turbo, (even with pusher you shouldn't have had to cut the support,I didnt)I also relocated my alt.(made my own kit for around 100 including belt

I originally set out to install the radiator inside the core support but I decided to remove the entire core support for a few reasons. Yes, I could have just bought aftermarket pushers but I don't care for pushers in a street car. After a ton of research I decided to reuse the stock fans if I could get them to fit. I think I was successful at modifying the stock fans which required moving the radiator further forward. The more I looked at the front of the car the more I figured a little bit of fabrication could produce weight reduction as well as plenty of clearance I would ever need for any further modification down the road...such as big cubes with a S500 series T6. ;-) and included the benefit of easier to work on. Someday I plan to remove the entire cowl but not until I am finished street driving the car.

I did not fabricate the hot side. It is a custom built hotside that I purchased used. I will fabricate the T6 hotside I build in a few years. I will be running a 5inch fender exit

I will get more pics of the hot side soon. I am preparing to assemble the top end of the engine any day now. Trick Flow 215 CNC heads and the custom cam. The cam was spec'd by John Bewley of Lil John Motorsport Solutions and was supplied and produced by Kip from Cam Motion. It's a low lash solid roller, a fairly new concept created by Cam Motion. I was running a low lash solid roller in my N/A/nitrous build and was very satisfied so we are going to try it with the turbo. I am excited to see how it does.

Jesel rockers

Trick Flow heads, I bought these off an out of state friend who put very few miles on them but they were run for a few minutes with no coolant. I brought then straight to my machine shop and he performed a three angle valve job plus milled .005 off them to make them perfectly straight. This pic is before I dropped them, they look like new now.

Here is a picture of the shop my son and work in. It's a 1344 square foot shop that we use for part time LS tuning/building/hot rod work plus we install graphics and build signs in here on the side. It seems our winter projects have taken over. lol

I tore the engine down for the cam install and removed the oil pan so I can drill and tap the drain. Here it is hanging on for dear life to the engine crane.

The heads are torqued down with copper coated LS9 head gaskets and the cam is installed. I have to order longer pushrods due to the adjusted valve angle of the trick flow heads. I had 8.150 and need to go to 8.500. WOW Here we are melting metal late at night closing off the core support ends

I was tempted to use the aero latch hood pins but want the car to appear as stock as possible so I figured out how to reuse the stock latch assembly

Then I remounted the intercooler to a better position and fabricated transcooler mounts in-between the radiator and intercooler.

Here is how the car sits now while I fabricate the upper radiator mounts and fit the cold side.

Pushed it out of the shop friday to install graphics on a box truck and quick clicked a pic

I found a couple small round aluminum bungs laying around from another old project, drilled them out and tapped them. Welded them into the radiator and used them as mounts. Welded small round tuning into the plates I had installed on the core support as end caps. Cut down a couple 8mm bolts and radiator mounts done. Routed the cold side and bolted everything up. Fabricated fuel rail mounts for the short injectors so that I don't need to run spacers. Just need to figure a couple more things out, install pushrods, find a lower radiator hose that will work, oil drain/feed lines and mount regulator and finish running fuel lines. Getting closer to firing it up.

Damn nice build you go going on there. With the attention to detail, I'm sure you'll hit your goal. I assume you'll tune the car yourself?
