Any cam will work, just some not as good as others. If you got the extra coin, get a custom spec from Martin or LJMS. Either will spec a cam around your needs and whatever gear you decide to run.

If I get a custom grind cam.. do I have to mess with the valvetrain? I was thinking on going with 373s on gears

If you change the cam you will need aftermarket valve springs and push rods at the very least.

I recommend a ported oil pump, a replacement timing chain and a bolt/gasket kit that will include the gaskets and balancer bolt needed to swap the camshaft.

We have a line of 4.8/5.3 turbo camshafts and our Stage 1 turbo camshaft would work, but it might be a bit too large for a truck with a 4.8 that weighs well over 4000 lbs. This would depend on stall speed, rear gear ratio, tire size, weight and your intended usage for the vehicle.

Specs on the Stage 1 4.8/5.3 Turbo camshaft are 215/219 .612/.585 114+3, and provides an increase in power across the board. Spool time is greatly increased as is HP and TQ. Shift RPM will be 6200-6300rpm and redline should be set around 6500-6600rpm.

If you wanted to add even more low end torque, a custom grind 215/215 .612/.612 114+4 would work very well also. This cam would need to be shifted around 6000-6200rpm with a redline of 6400-6500rpm.

We offer a complete cam package with the Stage 1 215/219 cam, dual valve spring kit with BTR Platinum or PAC 1904 springs, our hardened chromoly push rods, our in house ported LS6 oil pump, LS2 timing chain and a bolt/gasket kit for 924.98. If you would like to go with the custom camshaft, we charge 20.00 more dollars for that so the total would be 944.98.

Hope this helps!
