Cool 1969 Nova SS - 5.3 - Holley Dominator - S480 Build...

This will be my first build thread and it will probably be a doozie thats for sure. Current ride is a 1969 Nova SS that spent the 1st year of ownership in my garage while I cleaned up the underside and installed a brand new suspension all around. Car featured a 400/377 SBC that was faily healthy pump gas motor backed with a 4 speed and a 9" with 4.56's. After having the motor in and out 3 times, it finally was running and driving after years. Lasted about 5 outings till a mis-adjusted valve wiped out the cam and some other odds and ends....it was fun while it lasted. While motor was out found a small crack in #6 cylinder and decided it was time to build the 5.3 and not regret anything. I had picked up a 2004 5.3 that will be the base of the build. The goal will be a solid 9 second car on mild boost with hopefully the ability to turn it up and run 8's. Turn the key and go with fuel injection. Anyways here is the begining stages of the build.

The car

The engine

The damage

Engine back out for last time

nice looking nova. I did the same thing last year 6.0 turbo and it was the best decision ive ever made .

with your heater box removed id buy the adjustable motor mount adapters. so you can slide it back where you want it . I used the stock location plates and it puts the engine in the stock location but you have to slide the trans 1" forward to bolt up as the ls pass head is flush with the bell housing. . that works good but the driveshaft will be short . you might be able to move your's back another 1/2 inch. if you need any nova/ls swap info there are quite a few on here and they are all good guys and willing to help.

Holley 12-1800 pump...same unit I have pushing E85.

Some guys recently have indicated one side has failed on them in short time.

I have a -12 feed from my sump to a -12 Holley pre-filter-->pump-->post-filer set up and it works fine. The pump is also at the same height as the sump so it doesn't have to pull the fuel before pumping it.

The new 12-1800 has two feed lines. Kinda glad I went over kill on my feed line. Just a FYI.

Nova looks clean!

Razor my pump is going to be mounted exactly where yours is. Currently had a holley blue on my old set up running 10an feed. Hoping the 10an is plenty big since its all basically brand new. What pre and post filters are you running?

Nice Nova! of course I'm biased.
You will meet your goals I'm sure.

I'm running the Holley pump on E85 with no issues. I guess others have had problems.....

I look forward to following along with your build.

Thanks Ron I followed a ton of your build. The biggest hurdle is going to be learning the holley dominator system.

Thanks all. I will keep up as the build progresses. Currently am stock piling parts to get engine into the engine builder. Innovative performance will be building the engine. I will be running a lil john custom cam and most likely his billet s484 built for combo.

Motor:

Iron block 5.3
Stock crank
Wesieco pistons -3cc
Callies compstar rods
Arp main and head studs
Ls9 head gaskets
Cleaned up mildly touched 799 heads
Ls7 lifters
Holley hi-ram 102 intake
Nick Williams 102 throttle body
Holley 160lbs injectors
Holley 18-400 dominator fuel pump
4" air to air intercooler

Plan on running a th400 with a ptc converter

They are dominator filters w/-12 ends.

Element sizes are 10 micron pre-pump and 100 post pump.
