Default Most boost on LY6 with MAF

I don't want to use an SD tune on my LY6 turbo build (if I don't have to). I like the driving characteristics of the MAF. At what hp/boost are people running into issues with the stock metering?

My goal is 800whp with meth through a 4l80e and S475

I'm not going to say its impossible, but at that level its becomes a little impractical.

Well if it's an E38 then depending on the OS it will go to the moon with the MAF and your goal is plenty doable.

IIRC a large portion of the factory units start breaking up around 12psi? I don't remember which ones can handle a higher load.

I plan to use HPTuners

I hope it can handle it. I want this car to be as streetable as possible on pump gas and meth. It is going in my '71 Chevelle and I refuse to lose to my buddy's '72 with a T-Trim. Gotta have goals right?

Why are you so scared of SD tune? I can't tell the difference one way or the other when the right person gets a hold of it.

I've heard that cold starts are barely a issue and everything else is the same otherwise.

Then don't worry because the E38 will read well over 1000 rwhp with a MAF depending on the operating system used.

There are opinions on both sides here that makes this a little murky.

What OS is needed to make the MAF work?

Not sure on the specifics. I'm not a tuner.

I have never driven in an sd car apart from the older 5.0 Mustangs so I don't know exactly what to expect. However if I can get what I need with the factory components then I am not opposed.

There are tons of factory cars that don't use a MAF. 99% chance you won't be able to tell the difference with an SD tune.

I like the 2009 LS3 corvette OS for something like that since it already has the extended MAF table or maybe a 2008 Silverado OS with the enhancement applied to extend the MAF table. Either should work with a 4L80 TCM I believe if you are wanting to control the trans with the TCM, or run a manual OS with a MVB 4L80. A lot depends on your wiring harness, ECM/TCM part numbers, etc though so don't quote me on this.

I run MAF only on my 07 E38. 780 RWHP and plenty of room for more. Just use the 2.5 bar OS in HPT which extends the maf range. Works fine.
