Default Cam and springs for 4.8 build

As the title says what size cam and springs would be recommended for a mild turbo set up? Is it worth the money spent?

"worth it" is entirely subjective. Call someone like Martin @ Tick performance, tell them your goals and budget, and he can explain the benefits to you.

Is it worth it for a nicer JY build. Not looking for a monster motor just some fun.

I would suggest looking at some of Denmahs builds, and making that decision yourself. He has several builds on here with stock cams, and they all make great power.

Need to be more specific… Power level? Turbo/fuel used? RPM desired? Boost level? Budget?

4.8’s are a bit gutless down low. To take advantage of their Rev happy nature I think a cam can make a huge difference. You would need springs to match the cam and the boost levels you plan on running. Then you need the right converter and gearing to match the cam. If you don’t run a combination of parts that work well together, you’ll be disappointed. If you don’t’ have the budget to properly setup a higher revving combo, leave it alone. Throw in some cheapo PAC 1218’s or comp equivalent single beehive spring and be done with it

I would agree with this, with a 4.8 you can rev it out really well which will give a great powerband, if you put a decent cam in it

Looking for 500ish hp. I plan to use a s475 or similar. Pump gas street able power is the plan. I've looked at pac1218 springs with a LS9 cam.

I ran that exact same setup on a 5.3 making well over 500hp.

I'd suggest a loose converter as that cam will accentuate the gutlessness of the 4.8 down low. What ECM U plan on using? GEN3 or GEN 4 engine? While the LS9 cam looks cheap, remember you need to add the price of the correct timing cover/sensor/cam gear.

Much better cams out there. An LS1 cam can usually be picked up dirt cheap and is a good upgrade over the truck cams IMO.

I will be using a t56 behind this motor. I need the motor to be a little gutless off the line or I'll never hook up. The car will only weigh about 2,000-2,500

Fyi, an s366 will be much better suited for 500hp and similarly priced to an S475.

Some people say the s366 is too small. Does anyone have experience with this turbo?

I have lots of experience with it. We sell them every day. On 350 CI or so, 600hp is fairly simple. With a 4.8, the ceiling is even higher. For a 500hp goal on a 4.8, it is well within a comfortable power range.

This looks to be the way I will be going.

Does anyone have a suggested injector size? Looks like quite a few use 80lb injectors. I'll only be using pump gas.
