Default s480 oiling issue

I'm having some issues with my new turbo. I was told I need to run a 4an feed and 12 an drain which I have. Frist start up and few miles went fine. after about 12 miles It started smoking so I pulled the exhuast off and there is oil leaking into the housing. I have to run a 45* fitting to clear my hotside and a 90* to get into the pan-the bung in the pan is as high as it can be. With the car level on Jack stands no oil comes out of the bung with the drain line off, but the car don't sit level on the ground. I can't get anymore angle on the drain line and the turbo is as high as it can go without hitting the hood so I have a bit of fall in line about 4 inches. Has anyone had to run a restrictor with a bw s480? The car does have a high flow oil pump.

I have a high volume and a -4 feed, but I do use a cheap on3 scavenge pump. No hints of oil.

What is the oil pressure like on cold start and at WOT? Is there oil coming out of the compressor also or only the turbine side?

If it is only the exhaust side, you may have just hurt the turbo. Definitely confirm that there is no oil in the intercooler or anything like that. You may need a restrictor in the feel line, and if its coming out both sides simultaneously, you will DEFINITELY need one.

Hard to say for certain without inspecting the turbo.

Well if it means anything the car would idle all day without oil getting in the exhuast but after a couple in boost pulls it would smoke.

The absolute best way would be to measure the oil pressure at the feed fitting and measure that against what Borg Warner calls for max pressure. I had the exact same issue as you on my Garrett, and I put a 0.060 restrictor on it, and it hasn't smoked or blown up ever again.

I would unplug the other valve cover honestly. Boosted cars need all the flow they can get. There is a reason some do -10 fittings on the valve cover.

Will do that is the easy thing to try.I'm still learning with the ls type motor. I have had some other turbo cars but they didn't make much power and had smaller turbos.I guess I just was able to get away with not venting much on them

Two big vents to catch cans at the FRONT of each valve cover and you'll be good.

I dont care who says not to run a restrictor on a borg but I run a .070 as my melling high volume pump is just too much oil pressure with a -4 feeding and -12 draining. Never had an issue, borg has been on the car for a year and beat the crap out of it.

I had no issues draining my S480 with a -10 setup. My GT55 needed a scavenge pump as it had much less angle.

Betting this is a crankcase venting issue.

Soon as my catch can would fill up with oil/water my turbo would smoke. Once emptied it wouldn't smoke again unless I filled that can by accident again.

This was a brand new tc7875 on a completely stock ls1.
