Just as the title says. I am reading as much as I can regarding a 5.3 turbo for my 72 protouring camaro And I never see any mention of one year 5.3 being used over another. aside from drive by wire vs cable and the later gens being vvt. Is there a particular year worth purchasing over another? Thanks in advance

Gen 4 5.3s have better rods and wrist pins
Depending on you power goals, you might try and find one of them over a gen 3

thanks for the reply, that's exaclty the info I'm looking for. if I can make 6-700 to the tire with a boost cam, and ported heads, I'd be happy with that.

a lot of it will be in the tune
A poor tune will pop a forged motor as fast or faster than a good tune on a jy 5.3

I have an 05 5.3 and though it has a 24x reluctor on it, it also has the Gen 4 rods and timing chain. If you want to stick with 24x this is a hassle free way of keeping 24x.
