Default 76mm T4 turbo on 5.3?

Local 1/8th mile 275 Factory Street class I'm looking at is limited to stock block and T4 76mm turbo max. I've been planning to do a stock bottom end 5.3 for a while now but was thinking I would be running a T6 76mm or 88mm. Can the T4 combo work well with a 5.3 without too much backpressure? Would like to run E85.

Thanks,

Chuck

I am running a S480 billet T4 with a 347 on E85. A T4 can make plenty of power without back pressure issues if the combo is right. How much power do you need to make to be competitive in that class? Any power goals?

I don't know that I have power goals. Prob need close to 1000 fwhp to compete? Maybe not that much. I think it will be a 5.50 to 5.70 class. Could be wrong but I doubt anyone is much faster than that.

Stock48 runs a T4 billet 76mm on a stock bottom 6.0 and runs 5.20s @ 3400 lbs if I remember right. A T4 on a 5.3 would be much less restricted on the turbine, you'll be fine.

yup i know denmah had an S476R on one of his fairmonts that made good power as well. You would have no back pressure issues whatsoever with a large A/R

Sounds good. Thanks for the response. I'm still a few months out before I purchase the turbo, just wanted to make sure I'm on the right track. I was concerned that the E85 would cause more backpressure. I'm gonna start off with truck manifolds, does 2.25" crossover pipes sound right?

2.125 or 2.25 crossover, biggest turbine wheel you can get for a T4, and a 1.25 AR turbine housing will be excellent and not much back pressure.

What would be the purpose of running the largest turbine as possible? I see the large A/R coming into play but wouldn't an oversized turbine just be overkill?

A large turbine has proven to generate more leverage on the shaft and helping spool. It also will lower back pressure with a good housing and a good camshaft.

Next question, which Turbo should I go with? I'm thinking I will give Jose a call and Turbonetics. Any other suggestions?
