T4/T6 Frame Turbos. Largest still able to keep A/C?
Hey Guys,
I'm new to the F-body game. Been dealing with trucks all my life over on PT.net. I have a family member that is thinking about selling his black 1998 Camaro Z28 6-speed t-top car to me.
If I do end up buying it I'd like to do the Wolfe minitub with MT 295/55-15's or MT 295/65-15's and lower it down in back to make it level so the car doesn't sit *** high and tuck a little drag radial.
My question is with turbo kits... I've seen several kits that offer either T4 setups or T6 setups. The priority would be to make a bitchin' street car that can see track time and run 9's. A/C is important here in VA where the 110 degree summer days can be humid as anything and I don't feel like sitting there in the car cruising in Ocean City sweating like hell.
What is the largest frame turbo a 4th gen F-body car has room for while keeping the factory A/C hooked up and functioning correctly? Would I be limited to a T4 housing or would a T6 possibly fit?
I see Huron makes a kit that keeps the factory A/C but, it's with a T4 housing....

Any advice or knowledge would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys,
Matthew

You can fit any size turbo and keep ac with the right amount of custom fab work.
I have ac with a mid frame t4, 900whp 9inch auto car.
If I could do it all over again I would move the battery to the back, stand up the radiator (search that one) and fit a t6. No reason you couldnt keep the ac like that. Only issue then would be the 5 inch dp you would need.
Are you building yourself?

i also wish there was an a/c t6 kit, but frok my understand theyre not produced as its difficult and would require many other things such as custom a/c lines and stuff, personally i would still buy a kit like that and do whatever extra needed to be done to make it work. But yes you can fit any size turbo you want upfront top mounted, but youll need custom a/c lines and in sure you could keep the dryer in the same location, if you remove the washer fluid tank i dont see why you couldnt put your condenser behind the rad and some pusher fans. Also the downpipe is an issue as well this a t6, fender exit is ok with you your good, if not you could always run a 5inch dp straight down and put a cutout on it to open it when you get into boost, and off the side of the bottom of the downpipe run a 3.5in exhaust back. Its possible..but expensive to make it all work. and with turbo builds theres so many little expenses that add up so i ran outa $$ quick

Huron Speed V2 T4 kit is gonna be your best bet if you aren't looking to do custom fabrication. You can still get a nasty billet s480 with a T4 housing that will bolt right up with that kit...

I was thinking about building either an LSX388 or a LSX408 for the car. I know with the T4's exhaust housings the A/R's can't support really large CI engines. I know they would run on a 408 but, would they be optimal or would a T6 with a larger A/R run better with less back pressure? I just don't want to choke the engine with a T4.
Thanks for the response everyone.

Not a fear of a T4. Just do not know the capabilities of the T4. Every turbo vehicle (car/truck) that I have been around has been a T6 platform vehicle. Just wondering the capabilities of the platform in relation to the F-body vehicles with accessories and with larger displacement LSX engines such as 408ci, etc...

There are plenty of people running 9s and 8s with pt88 and similar turbos. I run a t4 comp with a 88 comp wheel and 94mm turbine. Went 9.8 at 3850lbs with ac and everything else.

Give this thread a shot. He's running a T6 and keeping A/C. He's posted a lot of pics and seems to be doing it right. It'll give you and idea what you're looking at.
