Default Anyone seen a belt come apart like this?

Had maybe 15 min of run time on it and no miles on the road as I just started the motor. I was blipping the throttle maybe 2.5k-3k rpm not sustained rpm using my hand to turn the throttle body cam (I know its kinda stupid but we have all done at at one point or another) and the belt let go. Bad belt or do I have a larger issue.

Looks like it was making contact on the back side of the belt where the frayed part is. I had a zero turn mower do this once.

Yeah that's what I thought too but I can't find anything it could have hit and it came apart in a split second with no sign of anything starting to give

Alignment will do that, and also bracket flex under load causing miss-alignment.

What this guy said. Check your pulley setup with a laser or straightedge!

Checked the alignment and everything looks good. I could not find anything that cut the belt. I put a new gates belt on it and everything seems to be good so far. I think I just got a bad belt.

Mine was doing this as well. It looks to me like it was some rust that was on the idler. It was a little rough on the back. So I sanded the idler down to make it smooth and all seems well at this time.

I agree. A lot of people don't ever know just how much a bracket can flex until they're watching it on a dyno. Bob

Yeah I am hoping it was not flex as the engine was only being reved and not under any load. If it turns out to be flex I will be a little disappointed as it is a expensive billet setup for an LSA.

My belt does that after a few 7k rpm pulls. If I drive normal it has no problems. i can't figure it out either, but flex would make since

Like Bob said, flex is commonly the issue for this. Especially on blowers. What is your setup?

I had the same issue. I put a new belt on and took it for a spin only to have it shred the belt after 5 min. I went and got a new tensioner and haven't had problems since.

A 4.8 with truck acc. I'm not running power steering so the belt has to travel from the crank pully all the way to the alt. the last time it shredded i snipped off the one riv so now it's basically a 5 riv belt. it's been good for a 1000 miles or so with lots of 7-7500 rpm pulls

I had a fresh dayco belt explode for lack of a better term. Bought
a goodyear gatorback & haven't had anymore trouble.

It was a gatorback belt that came apart on me. I have run it with a gates belt and no issues thus far. The setup is from C1 for a LSA.

So I have not had another belt fail but I do have some flex for sure. The alternator and power steering pump are attempting to get closer together under load. What is considered an acceptable amount of flex.
