Default lq4 turbo help

I have an lq4 completely stock except a comp cam 54-480-11 cam and springs to match. 2" Longtube headers rear mounted 76mm on3 turbo with 2.5" intercooler piping. My problem I'm having is when u crack the throttle the intercooler boots suck flat. I pulled the inter cooler boot off and the turbo is moving air as it should and there is nothing blocking my intercooler or tubes . There are no exhaust leaks and no boost leaks on the cold side. Any ideas?

That'd be my guess. Weak/thin boots that get sucked in by vacuum.

Post pics if possible. Also, could be too long of a cheap boot. If your pining is close enough to the IC outlet it shouldnt suck closed

They are 4 ply boots my farthest distance with any boot is probably the 90 ' to the intake. I will try to get some pics when I get home. Also the turbo won't spin at a 850 rim idle. It's a brand new journal bearing 76 on3

Make sure the turbo is getting oil. It's not uncommon for a rear mount to not spin at idle, especially with long tubes that size. How big is the exhaust leading to the turbine?

Also, if your boots are getting sucked in, shove the pipes into them as far as you can and reclamp. This happens a lot because when you're at part throttle, you're usually pulling vacuum.

It is 3" from headers to turbo and I will try to push them in further and reclamp them.

Too small of an air filter on the turbo perhaps.

Sounds like the couplers are just regular rubber ones need to upgrade to a better type.

un hook the turbo from the intercooler and see if it can suck thru the intercooler alone if not I think you need to start looking for a blockage or a rag or something. un hook both ends from the car and blow thru it with a leaf blower and see how it flows.

it should'nt suck hoses flat unless there is a large restriction.

You have massive header primaries and a large exhaust. You don't have enough exhaust velocity to spin the turbo at idle. Is that thing pretty lazy in the low-mid range as far as spool?

I have not driven it yet. And I know the headers are huge they are from my previous n/a motor I figured I would try them before I go a different route. I will try the leaf blower trick when I get home. This is what it looks like underneath

I would seriously consider replacing the headers with something smaller like 1 5/8" or 1 3/4" at the largest with a 2.5" collector and 2.5" piping that's either wrapped or coated back to the turbo. Spool times will pick up tremendously and you won't be giving up any top end power at all.
