Default Solid mounted engine/turbo, what to use for heat expansion?

Hello all, about start my hotside and need to make a decision. I would like to put something on each 2.5" crossover between the manifold and the turbo for heat expansion to prevent premature stress cracks. Spd bellow 186 each, reibon ss bellow 110 each, burns double slip 37 each, vibrant interlocking flex 30 each.

The bellows seem a little pricey and I've read hit and miss on the vibrants, leaning towards the double slip, any advice or experience?

Thanks, Derek!

http://www.treadstoneperformance.com...oupler+Bellow/

I've been using these for a few yrs now and no issues! They have a liner inside.

Do not use the standard flex couplers with interwoven steel that do not have a liner. Seen them fail and blow up inside to completely choke off flow. Weave comes undone and it expands shut

There's members on here that claim those have failed on them.

I'v also heard members claim failure, but never seen it. They always have an excuse for not having a picture of it. Mine held up for 3+ years at 60+psi of exhaust back pressure.

I used the SS bellows on my last kit. Summit sells them semi-cheap ($30) but only in 2" ID. ( which is plenty for most)

I use both the weave type (with the segmented liner inside), along with the bellows style for the wastegate lines.

If your motor and turbo is solid mounted like mine is. I just used a vbanded hotside. Should be enough to move a tiny but if anything wanted to move.

negative... no problems so far. I figure the vbands and the manifold flanges will move enough to no cause problems.

Solid mounted to the frame and solid motor mounts. No issues.

That solid stuff might work for some time and low usage, but over time it will crack.

That's the coolest looking turbo setup ever...lol
Do you have a build thread on the car?

Thanks, it's been a long process to get it there. I don't have a build thread on here. I've made a few posts on the Factory Five forums, but not on LS1Tech. I really had no plan on the build. It had a stock LS1 (333whp) and Porsche G50 transaxle. While driving it to work, the alternator went bad. Well, to replace the alternator, I had to remove the gas tanks.

So if the gas tanks are out, I might as well replace them with sheetmetal tanks.
Since I'm getting new tanks, I need a new fuel system.
Since I'm getting a fuel system, I might as well get the turbos.
Since I'm doing the turbos, I might as well get a fully forged LSX
Since I'm going fully forged, twin turbo, I might as well upgrade the transaxle
Since I'm upgrading the transaxle, might as well upgrade to the Lamborghini unit.

Basically that progression caused me to get to where I'm at today, a little over a year later. This turbo setup is the 7th I've made for this car.

Whether it's mounted to the frame or engine, there's still no wiggle for anything to expand and contract. I'm looking at getting a set of Reid washbon stainless bellows for 75 a piece. Nice in between.

You dont need "expansion" room if your turbos are hanging off of your motor, Not mounted to your frame.. They can expand and contract all day long with nothing to resist them. Ask me how i know.

Exactly.. There is no reason for a flex joint if the turbo(s) are mounted off the manifolds. They can expand and contract together without interference.
