I think you are doing fine with the engine Ron. Should still have quite a ways to go. Remember my buddy James? He just went a 5.95 in the 1/8th (Around 9.40s in 1/4) on a Gen III 6.0. 15psi, 18*, and on e30 fuel. And we target 12.0:1. BR7EF plugs.

Thanks Jordan!

So a follow up.

First want to say man is it frustrating tuning someone else's build. Especially with an impatient owner.

2nd pass it went bad lean half way through 3rd gear. It wasn't the tune, the VE table shouldn't need a huge jump in fueling from 210-215 kpa.
I told him to just run hard through the 1/8 mile and we would get that tuning covered,

Turned up the two step a bit car launches well and dies completely after the 1-2 shift.

Wire harness dangling in front of the turbo inlet got sucked in severing the main accessory lead....gads!

So we fix that and make another pass with the boost at 15. 10.22@135.
Best pass ever for the car.

After which he notices the flange at the turbo outlet looks like it's coming off...ok, it's tight, was never on correctly!

Fixes it, makes a pass, 10.12@137. Cool, except that was 18 psi.
16 deg timing. Fuel went a bit lean in all of third gear. 12.5:1.
No KR.
Pathetic 1.65 60ft.

A 9 sec pass on any sort of decent track. I feel it's about half tuned. But not bad for a 3900lb tank.

Car not legal for 137, got booted. If he does it again, banned from the track until he comes back with the car legal and ready for license passes.

I'm just glad it didn't blow up and nothing fell off that I know of.

I'm surprised sucking in wire didn't damage the turbo. I sucked in a small plastic wire tie at the track once and it destroyed the wheel.

Sounds like you are getting it done with that car! Keep up the good work Ron.

Two bests on the same day while battling issues....I''d say you're on the right track.

I hear ya on the tuning of other people's cars Ron. haha. Is he running out of pump on his car? What do you think is causing the lean issue?

His pump is as A1000 knock off set to 58 base.
Injectors are DW 60 @ 3 bar.
On the run at 18 psi, the trend was 11.5 to 12.5 in high gear.
Needed a VE tweak to verify. But he got booted.

On the run where it suddenly went lean, I suspect those wires touched the impeller on that run.

I agree on possible turbo damage. The S480 cast wheel must be tough!

Went out tonight in last weeks tune. I had him lower the rear of the car an inch, loosen the front shocks a tad.
He also put on some used 275 Pro MT radials.

The track was good.

9.85 @ 138 on the footbrake.
16 psi, 16.5 timing and 11.4-11.7 AFR.
3850 lbs with driver.

Yes. Very
I'd like to get paid now.
I got him his goal. And the car runs and drives nice.
Compared to his previous $700 dyno tune that blew up his 5.3....
And was hard to start, surged and barely driveable.

Just think Ron, now you can be a "tooner" as well!

LOL

Great results sir. Always a feeling of accomplishment when you put a tune up in a car and it goes down the track faster than it ever has before.

I am on the same since I can get it from the local gas station.
21 psi was knock free at 16 deg.....until it leaned out up top Out of fuel pump.
Dead mint @ 18psi. No knock till redline. This was on a bone stock LS1, so you may be able to sneak a deg. or 2 more in there.

Looks like you have it well sorted either way though.

Thanks for the kind words guys.
It is very gratifying to see results happen.
I'm sure I could get it going faster, but he will get booted for lack of safety equip, no license etc. I was surprised we snuck that one in!
He kept asking for more timing. So I gave him .25 degrees. :-)

I've actually got a new job tuning and running the Dyno at a local shop. Tuning late model Dodge cars! Ha!
I'll be getting some GM cars in there eventually. :-)
