Default Budget 4.8 turbo build.. Advise needed

Long story short. Found a 5.3 on Craig's list and bought it to plant in my 66 c10. Started looking it over and decided to pull the heads (862). Once off discovered it was a 4.8. Decided I would go the budget turbo route after being inspired by denmah's videos on YouTube. Anyway since I have one of the heads off I plan on replacing the springs to the PAC 1218 springs, trunion kit and wanted to know what head gaskets to run on this. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

LS9 gaskets are the go-to it seems. 7 layer MLS for around 100 a pair.

Are you positive its a 4.8?

Yes. Checked the p/n on the crank matched 4.8 p/n and it has flat top pistons. I wasn't sure on the ls9 due to bore size. But they will work?

Tons of guys use them with the 4.8/5.3 bore.
People might argue the problems with using the large bore gaskets.. etc etc, but the fact is they work.

Subd. Are you just thinking of leaving it as is other than upgrading the valves and slapping a turbo on, or are you thinking of maybe upgrading internals or maybe even putting different heads on or something?

Plan on leaving it stock. Maybe put a cam in it or ls1 heads.

How much power are you looking for?

LS9 gaskets are probably overkill. I’d get an actual 4.8/5.3 bore gasket. Few cheapie MLS 3.79” bore gaskets out there. Any of them are more than adequate for a gen3 engine. Rods will give before the HG as long as your tune is good. Even the old OEM paper gaskets and head bolts are fine. I’d grab the cheap china head stud kit’s and the cheapest small bore MLS gasket I could find. Torque them to 70ftlb with ARP lube and let it eat.

IMO OEM rockers/cam/heads are fine as well. No need to over complicate things. With the PAC1218’s and a $220 gt45, It will make enough power to bend the rods. Adding a bunch of other BS is just a more expensive way to make the same amount of power on little less boost.

Right on thanks for your input. Just got the head studs today. Think I will order head gaskets and start putting this thing back together. Would stock ls1 injectors get me by or do I need to get better one eight off the bat?
