Default Intake manifold choice

Well the Holley HiRam just won't fit my application. It's a 2004 LQ9 going in a '55 chevy. The way it comes forward and down it puts the throttle body too close to the radiator core support to get an elbow on there. Turbo is a billet wheel S480.

I'm looking for opinions on whether to go with the Victor Jr or the Super Victor. Will there really be any difference in the two? Price including fuel rails is pretty close, $40 more for the super.

Will be using a 90 and then a Edelbrock 92mm TB

I have never heard one way or another between the victor and super vic, but I have no experience with either.

My thoughts, one is called a super victor, probably for a reason. And if it only costs $40 to have the super over the jr, I think the choice is clear.

That being said, is there any way for you to push the engine further back? It's a shame to give up that hi-ram intake.

I have a super Vic setup for sale if you decide you go that route. Intake, fast 4150, fuel rails, throttle cable bracket, 1" carb spacer, 2" air cleaner spacer and a 7" k&n air cleaner. Send me a PM and we can discuss if you would like.

It may not be a cost effective solution for you but they do have options to make your own custom upper plenum/top to fit your needs

I was able to return the intake. It was never installed, I just set it up there to check clearance. The engine is set back as far as it can go without cutting the firewall.

I looked at the various tops available but I think it would have been easier to shorten the one I had rather than trying to build a new one. The Holley looks really cool and to be honest that's the reason I bought it to begin with but it's pretty pricey piece to start cutting and welding on. The Edelbrock set up will end a couple hundred bucks cheaper anyway.

The reason I'm asking the question is not about the $40 I just want to make sure the super won't make it too soft down and affect how quickly the turbo spools or just drivability in general.

While there arent many graphs out there, unless pushing over 6-6500rpm, most of those big intakes dont really seem to shine ?

And they only lose out to others in the lower rpm's

Carb intakes seem to lose out the most at the low-mid range.

I have a billet s480 as well (t4) on a 416, looking for the best street performance as its 95% street car and my setup is a vic jr with nitrous outlet boosted elbow, works amazing!! and looks amazing as well!

I was very limited on space with my car. If you can afford it, I recommend the Lingenfelter intercooled intake. It kills two birds being an intercooler and the custom intake.

Very nice setup you have there! I'm afraid $3K is a bit more than I can afford for an intake.

I'm going with the Victor Jr set up. I'm basing my decision on the rpm range, I just don't need the extended range offered by the Super Victor.

That's one of the cleanest, sickest looking engine bays I've ever seen. I've always wanted to lose the FMIC on my car and run the Cold pipes straight to the TB.
Vic Jr. on mine with Aarons Elbow. Looks and works great. 2004 GTO.

Question, does that Lingenfelter intake work well? meaning, does it cool the air charge well, even heat soaked after a while? Are you running any Methanol/Water in addition? E85? Or are you just using the intake alone?

Beautiful...

Flipping the intake manifold 180* is always an option as well. Lots of guys doing this now...

I considered flipping it around but I think that would cause more problems. There's room under the dash but it would have interfered with the wipers and the A/C.

I also considered switching to the carb style top with 4150 type throttle body and while it would look cool and kind of "gasser" style it was just too much money.

if you like the high ram just cut behind the TB flange and weld in a 90deg piece of alum. pipe
