Default best budget pistons for a turbo build.

What are the best budget pistons for a turbo build that's going to get 20-26lbs of boost.

Thanks.

There's nothing budget about 26lbs of boost in an LSx engine. Wiseco makes some good pistons and are competitively priced. I wouldn't cheapen on out pistons to save a few hundred bux on something like this.

On what engine?

Factory pistons will live at that level with good fuel/tune on most setups factory setups.

L33 block but I don't have the stock pistons. (Forged rods and crank)

I do have a set of Mahle -6cc Forged Dish Pistons (MAH LS1105905I06) I can use but most say there not good for boost. (4032)

26lbs was just the max amount in case anyone wanted to know. More likely it will be around 20lbs.

Like I said, Wiseco makes some good 2618 pistons which are indeed better under boost than 4032. No sense in putting stock pistons in an otherwise forged engine unless you want to do like forcefed and just keep swapping in new engines everytime one pops.

All LS pistons are pretty cheap anyway, so just buy some decent ones

Any aftermarkert piston should be fine at 20lbs on a stock headed L33 with good fuel/tune. So would a set of stock pistons. If you want cheap, go with a set of $223 hyper pistons from summit. They are stronger than the OEM pistons I'm told.

Wouldn't these be better then what you posted? Plus I already have them.

If that Summit image is correct, the top ring land looks too shallow for boost use.

I've used the 4032 Mahle's before many years ago on a 347 and had no issues with them at all.....I think I still have them sitting somewhere.

It's no more shallow than the factory piston. They look almost identical in person.

The other question is what turbo? 20-26lbs on a 7675 stock internals are happy, not so much on a PT101. At least it would be pushing the envelope a little more towards the breaking point.

This one...

Depends on the power levels made at 26psi. The guy on the top of the stock bottom end list has been running 26lbs for years now on the same factory pistons. Twin S366 turbos and no intercooler. Same with many others on that list.

I also ran 26lbs on my last 2 motors. Started getting greedy with timing and lifted a head on the last 5.3. Previous motor was a gen3. After a year of abuse at over 20lbs it bent rods and ate itself. Neither of those had do with piston strength IMO. I've run 20lbs on all my motors without issue.

I've had more issues with getting machine work done properly for aftermarket pistons/rods than I have with the OEM stuff.

Ok, I got it now. When I read your post, I was thinking "stock pistons and 93 octane"

Ya, rattle em hard enough and stock stuff won't like that. I would bet forged aftermarket stuff will net you a tad more resistance to rattling and or heat resistance but, end of the day.. everything breaks.
