Legally speaking, it will never pass a visual inspection anywhere in the country that does things strictly by the book. You will be removing one cat and relocating another which makes the whole thing illegal.

Now, can you get it to pass? Possibly. Supposedly people have gotten cars with off road y pipes to pass even the sniffer. But its still not 100% totally legal.

Ya im not worried about a visual inspction. Im in Texas and know a ton of shops that have no problem with the visual. But when they plug in the obd2 tool is what i was worried about. I have a 96 with a procharger and i use oxygen simulators to pass and never had an issue. Just didnt know what all would be required for the 98-02. Thanks for the info though. I guess its just a matter of re installing enough cats to pass

Be careful with the cats you use. I believe some online have had problems with aftermarket ones melting (I guess?) behind higher powered forced induction cars. But if you aren't worried about visual, why bother with any cats in the first place?

Was only gonna do cats to keep the noise down and for it to pass emissions. I guess oxygen simulators work on the 98-02 also. So maybe ill go that route. Just alot to invest not knowing if i can get my inspection passed.

It's surprising how much putting a turbo in the exhaust flow quiets things down. Given that you're talking about putting cats in, I'm going to hazard a guess that you plan to run a full exhaust system, no? If so, noise will not be an issue for you.

My 3" downpipe (from Huron speed's v2 kit) is routed into a magnaflow cat-back, and the engine is incredibly quiet when driving around. Open the dump valve, and it gets louder... but not by much.

Tune out your rear O2s, and you won't pop codes. As for the sniff test, the county I'm in doesn't have those at the moment, so I can't really help you on that one.

Thats awesome, i really never thought about it that the turbo does quite down the exhaust, makes sense. Ya i was gonna run it all the way back to a cat back setup. Was planning on getting it tuned for a speed density setup. So not sure if that automatically cancels out the 02's or not. I gotta do some more research. Only reason i was trying to keep the 02's operational was to use the simulators to pass inspection! They plug in to your obd port to do the sniff test they dont use an actual sniffer on anything 96 or newer so pretty sure the simulators will work.

If you don't have any active emissions codes you will pass the obd test. Don't even bother with simulators, that can all be taken care of in the tune.
