Default swaped turbo silverado to e85 today. love it.

well after changing the fuel system to a single 380l pump sucking from a beans performance sump we found the stock 5 1/6 return was restrictive and we had 90 psi of fuel pressure so we made a new return 3/8 and got it under control and set it at 58 psi base. the truck was running 93 pumpgas and 10 psi and was a mid 11 second truck at that level .

it was running good on the tune I had in the microsquirt so I didn't want to load a new tune. so this is what I did .

I changed the required fuel to 10.0 due to our fuel being e78

raised timing from 11.5 * at 150 kpa and 10* at 220 kpa

to 14* at 150 kpa and 13.5 at 220 kpa.

and bumped the wue up a bit.

and hit it right the first time. turned her up to 14 psi and it is a whole new animal. runs and drives great and we are in the low 10s for afr at 14 psi boost( on the gas scale) but I expect that to be better with a bit more ethanol content. so I left it alone.

the more I use it the better I like my microsquirt . and so far the e85 swap is sweet. I might even try it on the nova next year. after some axle work.

Is the truck intercooled? Low 10s AFR seems really fat. How about some pics of the truck? Have you run it at the track on E85?

i'll get a pic or two. it is intercooled and after getting some more fuel in it the afr ia getting a litte better. like mid 10s and from what I can find 12.0 low boost and 11.0 afr higher boost is what to shoot for on the gas scale.

truck is a reg cab short box 2003. has an on3 kit with 78/75 turbo. 400th and 3.42 gear.
stock lq4 with ls6 springs only . microsquirt,80 deka,s

no track runs yet just got it on corn today.

Are you using the stock fpr on truck intake?

5/16" is not restrictive for me with more pump than that.

yes all stock 2003 return style intake and lines.

when we first did the fuel system we used the stock pump feeding the 380 inline and that got us to about 10 # boost before it whould lose pressure on gas. and it held 58 psi base .

so to better the system and get the volume needed to run e85 he bought a beans performance sump kit for a plastic tank. unhooked the stock pump ,and ran a -10 feed to the 380 . that must have been a hell of a restriction because it held 92 psi base . tried a new reg with no change so I pulled the return off and ran a 3/8 hose into a gas can and it was 58psi again. so we got a 5 1/6 quick disconnect to 3/8 barb fitting drilled a new return in the plastic tank and tapped it 3/8 pipe and made a new return out of 3/8 nylon factory style fuel line. that fixed it.

with this unrestrictive system the single summit 38ol inline pump keeps up on e85 to about 15 or 16 psi boost. and the truck flys it was a solid 11 sec truck before at 10# boost and now we have it at 14 # and upped the timing 3* it is much stronger. thanks.

does your AFR gauge allow you to change the Lambda readings?

We ran about 18-19* on E85 @ 16psi in a friends 5.3L. You have a little room to play with 14* if you aren't getting any knock.

Screw you OP for being able to run E85, I'm stuck with 93 pump! Just kidding, sounds like the switch was totally worth it. Do you think the gains are greater leaving timing alone and increasing boost or bumping timing and leaving boost alone?

With E85 you do both. Ethanol requires more boost & more timing. It's the nature of the beast.
Research ethanol latent heat value vs gasoline & the flame propagation rate of Ethanol vs gasoline & you will understand.

When you say on3 "kit" do you mean just the turbo or the actually piping and crossover and stuff? I dont see anything on their site for a silverado turbo kit

the kit is a new pass log style manifold ,crossover from stock drivers manifold, turbo, oil line kit, intercooler and piping and exaust downpipe. works pretty good for one of these trucks.

we went e85 as opposed to buying a good meth kit. making the fuel system better for e85 was a good move I feel. the beans performance sump kit works good in the stock tank.

Quick Reply: swaped turbo silverado to e85 today. love it.
