Wonder if I'd gain anything over a "billet" T4 S476. Any side by side pics of these new 88's next to an S400 frame turbo out there?
I think you should buy one and let us know. Lol.

I followed a bunch of T4 88 builds, seems to be a fussy unit. Lots of engine failures and some made no gains over the 76.

Seeing the gains from the 76 has me wondering how this 88 would compare to say a GT4508.

Few less MPH but with a spool time closer to the 76?

I'll pay half and do a back to back and datalog with backpressure and all... U guys sponsor the rest. If VSracing can prove their $500 88 out flows the big dollar T4 S476 with the 96mm exh. wheel, they will make some serious money!

Are you suggesting the turbo ws the cause of the engine failue?

Please post a link where it showed no gains over a 76, because the OP had about the best 76 money can buy before running this turbo!

I dunno about the best. I'd bet the S400's with the 96/87 wheels slammed into a 1.25 T4 housing would stomp one. The GT4776 with the 92mm exh wheel outperforms the S400's... and Precisions "Ultra Street" 76 holds all the "76mm" records at the moment.

Still a great unit. I believe skinnies used the 7675CEA to trap 168 in his 5.3 Rx-7.

Isnt that ultra a $3,500 turbo? Kinda out of the realm of budget build, some of us dont have that much money under the hood total.

haha its funny. People bolt on a larger turbo then claim engine failure... doesnt that mean it did exactly what you wanted and made more power?

Yup... little more than that even. I'm not saying I'd go grab a pair for my street car or anything. Just that the Ultra/Ultimate 76mm class record is held by Joel Greathouse's KBX Mustang running that unit. Consistent 4.80's I think...

I mean sure if you have the largest compressor cover, the largest turbine wheel and housing package you can find-it will be the laziest yet best flowing 76mm you could have. But, for an off the shelf (and from a cost standpoint alone) its amazing that the China junk is outshining the million dollar baby

There is not one turbocharger failure I could think of that could directly cause an engine failure. The bearings cant physically exit the turbo- and if they go bad- the turbo will just lock up and little to no material gets to the motor. If the compressor explodes, 99% of the time there is an intercooler to catch the debris, 99.5% of which could not make it out of the compressor anyways.
Worst case scenario the shaft breaks, and somehow ejects the turbine (something I have one seen PTE units do) and you lose oil pressure. Obviously the loss of oil pressure could hurt something, but the motor’s death would be cause directly by the lack of oil, not the turbo failure.

Only offering out what ive learned. I too am looking forward to seeing these things work out well. Maybe they offer too much power as mentioned and thats the issue? Not sure, but very curious to see if you guys can get these working well and reliably. I dont have any handy links.

Best of it

I may have missed it-but has anyone measured the turbine inducer/exducer of this turbo? I cant find real specs on it anywhere, and am a bit confused as to if the claimed 83mm is the turbine exducer (small side) or inducer.

You need beer with how bad football is in these parts!

Happen to get a measurement for the inducer?

PTE 7475 vs PTE 88 MFS
Both use the same compressor cover

Thanks for the pic.

Did you even take the turbine side off? Would be interesting to see what turbine wheel is in the new MFS unit

with regards to the football comment, I would assume you guys are from the Cleveland area from your mini bio on the side.... it would seem that even Johnny Football needs beer before practice with how bad they are lol...

serious question and I don't mean to sidetrack, would the 88mm turbo from VS fit in the location of the CX racing kit? Their kit comes with the 76mm, but I would like to have something with a bit more potential....anyone have any experience with this? I would like to avoid moving the radiator (for now) but will stick with the 76mm if the 88mm won't fit in the provided location. thanks for any information, not trying to thread jack
