Default Fmic guys!

Have a 1998 z28. Anyone not cut up their front bumpers and been ok with iats? Really don't want to cut mines up but if it's a must I will. Then also I was thinking if i do some cutting I would just cut out the camaro lettering. Any input would be great. Thanks

You could mount it horizontally

I used a 5" hole saw and drilled holes in my bumper. Leaves a little more rigidity in the bumper and lets air flow through.

So would u say that it's a must have that air flow to keep iats down.

I should mention also I will only be running 6lbs at most

Thanks

Just cut it. It's a plastic Camaro bumper not a Ferrari

I agree, I think most of the cut front bumpers looked hacked up. I left mine and simply put a fan on the intercooler. Seems to keep temps down well, and I haven't had any issues. I'm usually only running about 1/4 miles though. Sustained high powered runs might cause IAT's to go up higher.

I had the same question a while back ..... after much research I finally relocated to the need to cut it up !

If you search you will find a thread where Bob ( Brute Speed) had some success with an Fbody stock front end ( not cut). I believe the decision will revolve around the amount boost & your cooling needs. If I'm not mistaken that build was a D1 with a limit of 12lbs. No matter how you slice it ( no pun intended) you will have better performance with better air flow to the IC.

Good to hear. Just have to keep an eye on iats then. If they get to high I can add a fan. Just want to get it on the road then see how it all works. Do you think without the fan you would have problems? Thanks

Ok. That's what I wanted to hear. I'm only going to be running 6lbs and not trying to make crazy power #s just a fun street car I can drive over weekends. Definitely understand better performance and air flow with it cut up. Guess time will tell on how well it works with cooking also. Thanks for your input

If you use a rubber flap under the front edge of the intercooler to direct airflow into it, you shouldn't have any problems. CALL911 on here is running with this set-up in his LT1 4th gen, and he's pushing quite a bit of boost without having problems with it. Bob

Thanks for the replies. I'll give it a try without cutting and if theirs any issues I'll try the rubber flap in front of IC, last resort cutting it up.

I popped out my license plate frame/grill and hole sawed 3 holes behind it. You can paint the intercooler black and pop the grill back in and look bone stock.

I drilled the holes at the same time I made the switch from the Procharger twins to the front mount, so I have no idea what the temps would be with out the holes. Sounds like your going to try it covered and see how it goes. Can't hurt you can always cut later VS replacing what you cut out.

I also 2nd the upping of the boost. 6#'s is a small sample of the crack, you'll want more in no time.

Good luck

I'm sure I'll be wanting more out of it but just want to be able to drive without issues and bugs worked out 1st.😎
Got the car started and road tested and got several leaks. Drain flange at turbo leaking, thinking it's the gasket. Can I use some type of rtv to seal it or should I get new gasket( maybe thicker)? Got the cheap flange from eBay so not sure if the flange is just bad also. Also got my pressure side power steering fitting leaking. 😩 it drove ok but just was smoking from oil from drain.

Thanks
