Default 1984 rx7 5.3L turbo s475/th400/8.8 /E85 (sloppy style)

so after taking a long rest from wrenching on cars I'm back at it (i think)
going with something light weight. would like to see this in the 9s.

heres what i have so far and ill be collecting parts as i go.

1984 rx7
2004 5.3L long block (gen 3)
speedway motor mounts

the plan is to do a 8.8 rear with a th400 /fuel cell/ E85/ 7875 0n3 turbo

planning on taking this build slow. open up to any suggestions on making this easier for me!!

Trade it in for a mustang pronto! The aftermarket for these 1st gen rx-7's is non existent!

Cool project!

If could start my LS rx-7 project over again, I'd have cut the fire wall back like so... (Grannys Speed car below) You get the weight shifted to the rear where you need it, oil pan clearance, and free up TONS of room up front that is much needed in this chassis IMO. My setup is pretty nose heavy and crowded up front. Check out this link for great ideas.

http://grannys.tripod.com/20102.html

Good luck! 9's is cake with a turbo. I'd also go with small twins right off the bat instead of trying to fit a big single. Much easier to package IMO.

good luck!

Jealous.

There just isn't many nice street 1st gen Rx-7 swaps, or at least I haven't seen them.

I have an affinity for these, there is 9 local for sale with no titles that were abandoned in a buddys shop. Hard not buying a few lol

Looks good, nice and low. What did you end up doing with the steering rod? Hows the pan clearance? Slide that sucker back another 6 inches!

Am I seeing dished pistons on that? I thought all the Gen4 motors had flat tops pistons? Even the L33's. Didn't think they made a dished floating piston? I know 04 was a transition year so who know what kinda craziness you ended up with?

I've got an '05 5.3 with dished pistons on floating pins with the fatter rods. It was DBW too. Leftovers I guess.

Would like to know what he did for the steering rod also.
Seems to be one of the snags people run into when swapping these cars.

Love the build so far!

I just opened it up. It does have gen 3 rods. I thought i read somewhere that if the exhaust manifold bolts were 13mm they were the good rods. But i guess not.

Ill post a pic of the steering rod

That's a stinker, should still trap 150 pretty easy.... esp if you keep it below 2800lbs.
